Music game console

I've been watching too much of The Big Bang Theory that I'm beginning to think of buying an Xbox or a Wii or whatever it is that they're playing on the show. Do they have games where you can learn to play music? Can you even simulate using boutique guitar pedals using game consoles?

Anyway, why don't I just play with the real thing?

I really want to buy a game console, though, if it's within my budget. :)
