Need to increase earnings!

Posted by austenfan at 4/24/2011 01:03:00 PM 0 comments
Ever since I started blogging, I've never been able to cash out on my Adsense earnings. Why? Simply because I've yet to reach the minimum amount required before payout. I know, I know. It's sad how more than two years of blogging has brought me so little when it comes to Adsense earnings.

That's why whenever I read stories by bloggers who seem to be able to cash out on their Adsense earnings regularly, I turn green with envy. It's not that I'm bitter or anything. I guess it's just natural to want something others have, especially if you think you might be able to get it too, right? Imagine, some bloggers even get to reach the $100 minimum payout every month! How do they even manage to do that?

So, I've been reading up on some of the Adsense tips from several sites out there and I think I might have found the key to increasing mine. Hmm, I'm planning to create a new blog to see if these tips really do work. Alright then, just stay tuned for updates on my Adsense earnings! Hope they go up!

More traffic, please!

Posted by austenfan at 4/21/2011 09:45:00 AM 0 comments
To maximize my online earnings, I need to be able to get more traffic. But how to go about this? Well, the first and foremost thing to do would be to write incredibly interesting stories in order to attract more readers. But I can't always think about something interesting, right?

I know a few other things that you can do to raise your blog's traffic, but I'm too lazy to do them right now. I used to before, back when I was still a newbie blogger. Maybe I should go ahead and try them again. Here are some of them, in case you'd like to know too:

  • Visit other blogs too! Remember that when you visit other blogs and leave comments too, you'll be able to leave a link to your blog there too, which means... more visitors for your blog, of course!
  • Submit your blog to blog directories. The more directories you put your blog on, the more chances that it will become visited, so hurry and tell everyone about your blog now!
  • Join traffic building sites. I don't know if this actually works, but I think it requires a lot more effort than the previous one that I listed. It's still worth a try, though, especially if you really want more traffic.
If you're looking for traffic too, why don't you try these and then tell me if it worked for you?

Congratulations to the graduates!

Posted by austenfan at 4/17/2011 09:31:00 PM 0 comments
I just want to congratulate everyone who graduated today (or the past few days) or who will be graduating in the coming days! You guys definitely deserve a treat! After all that hard work and countless sleepless nights spent studying for exams, now's the time to sit back, chill out, and have fun.

After I graduated, I started working after about a month. I don't regret it, but sometimes I wish I could have taken a break first before starting to work. You know, get the feeling of being college-free? Well, I still have my post board exam days as some kind of experience being a bum, I guess. Haha.

Anyway, the point is not to worry too much. Just take your time, think about what you've been doing for the past four or five years. Then, think about what you want to do in the coming years. It's always better to have a plan. List down your goals, plan how to get them, and then start working to achieve them. But as I said, for now, relax and enjoy your vacation!

Hectic days!

Posted by austenfan at 4/13/2011 08:58:00 PM 0 comments
It's only the middle of the week, but I've been feeling so tired already. Of course, there could only be one reason for this, the same one that I've felt throughout college whenever I have deadlines to meet - stress. Stress, in every sense of the word - physical, mental, or emotional stress. That's definitely a sure way to get you all tired and weary, even though it's just the middle of the week, right?

Meeting one's deadlines gives a very rewarding feeling. But what about how you feel just before the deadline, particularly when you know that you're going to be having a hard time trying to finish it on time? It's stressful, that's how the feeling is. Ever wonder why is it that when deadlines come, they come together? I mean, when a paper is due tomorrow, it just so happens that you have another report that is due that same day. It doesn't happen all that often to me now, but I definitely experienced a lot of times like these during college.

What do you do when you panic starts creeping up on you, telling you that you can't finish your work on time? Me? I let the panic seep into me for some moments, and then I try to fight it and do whatever I can to get the work done. :)

Who loves to send text messages?

Posted by austenfan at 4/06/2011 11:00:00 PM 0 comments
I admit, I'm not really a fan of sending text messages. Although most people seem to be addicted to sending them that they'd even purchase a wilson cell booster than suffer having a bad phone signal. Sure, I send messages regularly, but not to the point that I can keep up a long conversation by sending these text messages. I know I'm among the minority here, but I just don't like back and forth replying through SMS.

Maybe I just get tired clicking the keys in my phone whenever I try to send long messages. Also, it's a bit hard to formulate a message nowadays, since every single difference in the writing style of the message can mean a lot of things for some people. For example, when a person forgets to add a smiley at the end of his message, the receiver of the message sometimes assumes that the message sender is mad at him for some reason. You can't also text using uppercase letters since this will be misunderstood as the text message equivalent of shouting. There are just so many existing text messaging principles out there that you can't afford to make a single mistake in how you construct your message as this can serve as a cause for misunderstanding.

That's why I seldom engage in drawn-out text message conservations. That, and the fact that I'm saving up my mobile load. :)

Getting some sleep

Posted by austenfan at 4/06/2011 10:46:00 PM 0 comments
It's hard to get eight hours of sleep, especially when you have a regular job. Most of the time, you're lucky enough if you manage to get around seven hours of sleep time per day. This is not always the case, of course. I think this is just applicable for those who do other tasks before going to sleep after they come home from work.

Whenever I'm short on sleep hours, I try to sneak in some sleep time during my travel to and from work. It doesn't always work for me since the vehicle ride isn't exactly comfortable, but when you're really sleep, you won't be able to help falling asleep despite your not conducive for sleeping surroundings.

Of course, whenever you sleep during traveling in a public vehicle, it's important to make sure that your belongings are well accounted for. Always put them in front of you, where you'll be sure to wake up if ever someone tries to take it. Remember, it's important to get enough sleep, but taking care of your valuables is important too!

Everyone seems to have...

Posted by austenfan at 4/05/2011 11:23:00 PM 0 comments
Whenever I look around me, people always seem to have a new gadget, whether it be the latest phone models, ipods, game consoles, and laptops. And yes, I can't help but feel envious of them sometimes. Even though it's my own decision to refrain from buying new gadgets and to just save my money, having a new toy/gadget to play with still brings with it a different kind of happiness, no matter how fleeting it might be.

Well, I'll just let those feelings of envy remain merely as that - feelings of wistfulness and longing. I know that there are better things that are worth saving up my money for so I'll really try my best not to get tempted and remain firm in my commitment not to spend unnecessarily. After all, I still have a perfectly functioning phone, an old but still working laptop, and an iPod nano to use whenever I'm in the mood to listen to music. There's nothing really amazing with the newer models, right? That's what I tell myself, at least. Haha.

I guess it's just a matter of having enough money to spend on your whims. But since I don't have that much, I'm just happy and content with what I have.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've never been to a party, like those described in teenage books and movies. Sure, I've been to a celebration party where people dress up and eat good food. However, I've never been to one wherein a student hosts the party with nothing more than chips and booze. The fact that I'm not really into drinking could have been a factor here, I think. Haha.

Anyway, have you ever been on one? How does it usually go? Does the party stay indoors or go on even on the backyard area of the party place too? Do they have an outdoor fire pit to add some sort of entertainment to the guests there? Are the food yummy or do you not even bother to eat there since your main purpose is just to relax and have fun with friends?

My asking these questions is making me look more and more pathetic, I know. What can I do? I'm sincerely curious about things as I've never been to a 'real' party myself. Now that I'm in my twenties, I think I need to start going to these kinds of parties more. I got to use up more of my free time on some fun and enjoyable activities!

Because I like writing

Posted by austenfan at 4/04/2011 09:16:00 PM 0 comments
I don't know when it started. Maybe it's about the time when I read a blog and felt how sincere the writer's words were. Maybe it started when I began reading feature articles from newspapers and magazines. Maybe it even started when I was asked to write an essay during high school. I don't know when and how I first started loving to write, but I know that it has become a big part of me now.

Although I know my writing grammar isn't always correct, the thing is, I don't really give it that much thought. I mean, of course I want what I write to be free of grammatical and spelling errors, but I don't obsess over them. I just write about anything I want in the best way that I know how. From what I know, my grammar seems to be okay, but I could be wrong. That's why I'm always open to comments and criticisms when it comes to my writing. I know that I'm no expert when it comes to the English language. I don't even know much about writing styles, having taken up a course not related whatsoever to communication or journalism during college. If something feels good to me, I just continue to write about it. And hopefully, whoever is reading it at that moment will not focus merely on the grammar, but on the content as well.

Girly? Me?

Posted by austenfan at 4/03/2011 10:02:00 PM 0 comments
When people look at me, the word girly doesn't really come to mind. Why? Because I don't dress that way. I don't really wear skirts and other accessories like most girls usually do. It's not like I don't want to. It's more of I don't know how to. Don't take it literally. I mean, I don't know if I'll be able to put on a nice look once I've combined my outfit and accessories for the day.

I've tried reading fashion magazines and I know what usually looks good on people. That is, on paper. When it comes to actually wearing it, I don't know if I'll be able to pull it off or if it'll just look ridiculous on me. Yeah, I don't really have that much confidence when it comes to dressing up. When you look at me, you'd think I wouldn't ever want to wear corsets and bustiers because I'm usually more of a shirt-and-pants kind of girl.

Actually, I would like to try wearing those clothes too. I'd love to be able to wear something else - something new and fun! Who wouldn't want to wear pretty clothes, right? I guess I have to start working on my confidence when it comes to dressing like a girl! :)

Being extra careful

Posted by austenfan at 4/03/2011 04:14:00 PM 0 comments
Nowadays, you have to really take extra care with your belongings. This is true, especially when you commute and ride public vehicles on a daily basis. More and more people have experienced getting stolen from, while commuting. And since there's no such way to counteract these things, what we can do is to make sure that are belongings are secured and well-protected.

Have you ever heard of hi tech pickpocketing? Apparently, it's a form of stealing without actually physically taking your valuables. Can you just imagine what will happen if this phenomenon have become widespread? Right now, the best thing to do would be to follow as much safety precautions as you can.

If you carry a bag with you, make sure that you keep it in front of you and that you keep an eye on it. Even if you're talking with somebody while on a public vehicle, make sure that you know where your bag is. Also, you should avoid bringing valuable items like gadgets and laptops. If it can't really be avoided, maybe you should consider putting on an extra security measure, like a lock for your bag. I know it sounds really paranoid, but I think it'll really help to secure your things.

Got any other tips to share?

Weee! I love it!

Let me just gush over my new template. Black, white, and pick - don't you just love that color combination? I admit, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but as I was browsing through the layout selections, this one immediately caught my eye. What's not to like, right? At least that's how I feel since I love those three colors!

Plus, I love how I was able to change the blog title's font style into something other than the usual ones, i.e. Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana, and so on. However, despite how much I like it, it's still not without its flaws. I think I'm gonna have to do something with the header, like create a new header image for it. That is, when I have the time to practice my Photoshop and artistic skills. Haha. I don't know why, but learning Photoshop tricks doesn't come as easily for me as compared to most of my friends. It could be that I don't have much patience to play with the available drawing tools there. Or maybe I'm just not that artistic. Haha.

Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to try, right? Alright, one new header image coming up!

Ink problems

Posted by austenfan at 4/02/2011 04:44:00 PM 0 comments
It's not like I have problems with my printer or anything, it's just that I have a problem with how unbelievably expensive a single ink cartridge can be. And all for what? A few printed pages of black and white text? On the other hand, if you try to save up on your printer ink, it'll just get wasted and dry up later on.

That's why these days, I prefer to just have my documents printed elsewhere and pay for the printing fee rather than purchase a brand new printer ink cartridge. Of course, this has its own downsides too:
  • Your printer is just left lying around there, untouched and with no purpose at all if you don't load it up with ink. What's the use of having some good brother printers if you're not going to use it and fill it up with ink?
  • When you stayed up late finishing your paper, you need to put off printing it until tomorrow morning since most of the computer shops are already closed at that time. It can also be quite a hassle to get up earlier than usual to be able to print your document, especially if it needs to be passed early in the morning too.
  • Printing fees are getting more and more expensive right now. It's a bit hard to find a shop that still offers low printing prices.
I've heard of cheaper ways to refill your printer ink, but I haven't personally tried it yet? Have you? If you have, then please tell me if they're any good so that I can also try them!

New layout!

Posted by austenfan at 4/02/2011 01:12:00 PM 0 comments
What do you think of the new layout? Personally, I think it's a refreshing change from the mores calm and subdued look that my previous layout gave off. I love how the greens and pinks matches well the black and white background. It looks a bit girly to me, but my personality's a bit like that too, so it's perfect for me!

I kinda miss my old blog template too, of course. You don't use a blog template for more than a year and not miss it, right?

Err.. wait! I just remembered something else... I need a more professional look for this blog! I guess I'm going to have to let this one go. Okay, gotta find something new and professional again. Once I've uploaded the new template, you'll be able to see how it looks. Haha.

Will post more updates once I'm through with my template search!

Graduation time

Posted by austenfan at 4/02/2011 11:06:00 AM 0 comments
It's graduation time once again here! My wall on Facebook has been filled with graduation-related pictures and wall posts lately. Just thinking about it gives me this happy feeling inside, combined with some of those nostalgic feelings too! I can't help but remember my own college graduation day, when all my batchmates, including me, couldn't help but keep smiles on their faces throughout the ceremony.

At that time, I thought about the hardships I went through to be able to reach that happy day - all the studying on thermodynamics, mechanics, material handling, chemistry, and so much more! From that day on, I wouldn't be making lab reports, studying for midterm and final exams, and staying up late to finish a paper that is due the next day. That is, if I don't pursue higher education. And from the looks of it, I think I'm going to have to. Hmm, I'm still not that sure about it, though. I'd have to think long and hard if I really want to take up a graduate degree, and when and where I plan to take it.

I'm kind of leaning more towards studying again after two or three years, depending on the state of my finances by that time. Well, let's just see how it goes, but I hope my plan pushes through!

Planning ahead

Posted by austenfan at 4/01/2011 11:59:00 PM 0 comments
These days, I've been having a lot of ideas on what I should do in the future, with the regards to my career and personal life. It's like I have all these ideas (all of them sound really good) on what to do yet it's hard to focus first on one and start working on it to achieve that goal.

All of my plans have a lot to do with success and personal growth, something which I think is common to just about everybody. However, I'm not really sure if these goals that I've set are really attainable. Well, they are, but I'm not sure if I will be able to do all of them within the timeframe that I've decided on.

I guess I'll just have to do my best and see if I'll be able to meet these goals. After all, I believe that once you work hard on something, it will surely pay off. So, no matter how tired I get from the activities of each day, I'll just need to think about the consequences of my actions and how it will affect my personal goals and I know I'll immediately be able to motivate myself to give my best in the things that I do.
