Keep me awake

Posted by austenfan at 10/30/2010 09:38:00 PM 0 comments
Since I'm finding it hard to stay awake for a long period of time after 9 o' clock sets in, here I am, hoping that blogging for a bit might help keep me awake. It's not the best solution out there, but maybe, just maybe, it can help a little.

Have you ever wondered why they still haven't invented something that'll help you stay awake for long? I'm not talking about coffee or energy drinks, but something else that will claim to keep you awake for when you really need to. And by that, I mean something legal and appropriate. :)

It doesn't help that most of the time, I stay inside my room. I know, I know, I'm bound to fall asleep quickly if I'm in my room all day. Maybe if I had some bright, modern furniture around my room, it can distract me a bit and keep me from closing my eyes for a little nap every now and then. On second thought, maybe I'll just stick to good, old-fashioned coffee. :)

Back to weight watching

Posted by austenfan at 10/29/2010 07:33:00 PM 0 comments
Our digital weighing scale ran out of battery, so we had to go back to using the analog scale to check our body weights lately. However, there seems to be a difference in our weight measurements from the two different scales. It's only about a pound or a pound and a half of difference, but still, it's confusing (and a bit frustrating) for someone who really wants to lose weight. :)

After losing about ten pounds, I've grown a bit lax on trying to lose more weight these days. I'm back to eating chocolates, donuts, and cakes, which is as I'm sure you already know, a definite no-no when it comes to managing your weight! With the way I've been constantly eating all these sweets, I definitely need to eat some food to burn fat to help me get back on my diet. Foods with less fat are a bit tasteless, which I think is the reason people refuse to go on a diet. It's certainly the main reason why I've been putting off going back to this diet plan, but . :) How about you guys? Anyone on a diet? Tell me your success (I hope) stories! :)

Just when I think I'm ready to start on my diet again, I see this...

image taken from Red Ribbon's site

It's Red Ribbon's Chocolate Fudge Cake and whoa, does it look tempting! I haven't tried it yet, but just looking at the picture, I know it'll taste awesome. Uh, why am I talking (and salivating over) about a cake? And it's not just a cake, it's a (superduperyummy) chocolate cake, so that's guaranteed to have double the fat content. Wah. I must control the urge. Haha.

Tried this yet? Any favorite types of cake you'd like to share? :)

Some tips on saving.

Posted by austenfan at 10/28/2010 08:37:00 PM 0 comments
I know I'm not an expert when it comes to talking about how to save, but I'll try all the same to talk about it. These things I'm about to tell you are just some ordinary things I do that I think might be able to help you if you really want save more money.

1. Whenever you're in the grocery, look at the price tags before picking up something and putting it in your shopping cart. Compare prices before you decide on buying a specific product. Most of the time, you can get a much cheaper product (compared to the more famous one) that will give you the same quality of service.

2. Try to make use of those discounts and coupons that they give away. If you're going to buy some kitchen appliances, some aj madison coupons will definitely come in handy! You might find yourself paying a lot less than the normal price. :)

3. Keep yourself from buying things that you don't need.

4. Control your urges. No matter how much you want that Starbucks drink, just think that you can also get your caffeine fix from an instant coffee at a much lower cost! :)

Some upcoming books...

Posted by austenfan at 10/28/2010 08:22:00 PM 0 comments
In case you haven't heard of them yet, here are some upcoming books by some of the best authors (ever):

1. The Diviners (series) by Libba Bray
- This series won't be coming out for another year or so (I think). I don't know much about the series, but of course, I think it's going to be great. It's Libba Bray! :)

2. Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas
- Though I like her historical romance books better, Lisa Kleypas' contemporary novels are pretty good too, so I might try to read this new book as well.

I'm waiting for a lot of other releases, but I'll blogging about those some other time. :)

Ian Somerhalder is hot.

Posted by austenfan at 10/27/2010 08:48:00 PM 2 comments
Yeah, he is. That doesn't mean that I'll be avidly watching Vampire Diaries from now on, though. Don't know him or haven't heard of him yet? Here's a pic:

He does look very vampirish - definitely more vampire-like than Robert Pattinson. (Hey, I'm a Rob fan as well, so don't go thinking I'm dissing him. Haha.) I just chanced upon a scene of Vampire Diaries while I was randomly changing the channels and saw what the fuss about the show was all about. I'm actually starting to think that the major reason for girls watching the show is too see this guy. What is it about dangerously attractive guys? I always seem to gravitate more toward the dark and brooding characters than the easygoing ones. In case you're getting a little lost, I'm talking about fictional characters here. In reality, I prefer ordinary, cute guys - someone you I can hang out with wearing a shirt and mbt shoes, and not someone who'll probably always have me tongue-tied whenever I see him, much like this guy right here.

Are you watching Vampire Diaries? Can you give me another reason, besides the one involving Ian Somerhalder and his sexy, brooding looks? :)

Another Kdrama to watch out for!

Posted by austenfan at 10/24/2010 09:52:00 AM 0 comments
When I have more free time, I think I might try watching this new (at least, for me, it's new) Korean drama, Baker King Kim Tak Goo. I don't know much about the plot, but since my friend recommended it, and since I know we share the same taste in watching Korean dramas, I think I'm gonna like it too! :)

Here's a promotional picture for the series:

image is not mine and was taken from the world wide web

What is it with Korean dramas that's so entertaining, anyway? Why can't local TV producers/scriptwriters produce something like it? Or is it because we've gotten so used to these local shows that we find the Korean dramas more refreshing and interesting? And while we're on the subject, don't you think Korean women look absolutely gorgeous? They have perfect figures (figures which I don't think I'll be able to have soon, unless I use Lipofuze) and they have these amazingly white and smooth skin! Let's not even talk about their hair, cause I'm sure I'd get even more envious! Haha. Anyway, what do you think of this drama? Have you seen it before? Is it good?

Julie James has a new book!

Posted by austenfan at 10/24/2010 09:43:00 AM 0 comments
I'm definitely excited about this one! Julie James will be releasing her 4th book, A Lot Like Love, this coming March. For you fellow Julie James fans out there, I feel the same way. Why do we have to wait for so long? Haha.

A long wait it may be, but I'm sure that it'll definitely be worth it. Although I'm not a big fan of crime-related romance stories, I think I'm still going to like this one just because I haven't yet read a Julie James that didn't absolutely love!

Here's the gorgeous cover for A Lot Like Love:

I know! It looks even better than the cover for her 3rd book, Something About You, and that's saying something cause this one's so good too!

Alright, will blog for more exciting book releases!

I still love Math.

Posted by austenfan at 10/24/2010 09:00:00 AM 1 comments
Throughout grade school and high school, Math has always been my favorite subject. I know a lot of people feel the opposite, but Math has always been a fun subject for me. With Math, you get exact answers and there's no need to memorize different terminologies.

But when I got to college, I discovered that math really isn't as easy as it was before. It's not just about solving for the angles and areas of rectangles and triangles, rather, as time went on, it became more complex and confusing for me. Back then, I briefly considered going under a tutor program or maybe an online tutoring which can give me some Free math help. I stumbled upon Tutornext, an online tutoring site that can help students learn College algebra faster and easier. If I've known about this before, maybe I would have used it to help me with Factoring polynomials and Math word problems that I had a difficult learning at the start. Free homework help would definitely be a big use for some of the struggling students out there.

So, if you're having hard time learning math, just keep on trying to learn more about it. And if you like, there are online tutoring sites like Tutornext which can serve as your Math problem solver and give you some Math homework help. Hope that helped!

I'm temporarily taking this blog off my Twitterfeed account, which automatically makes a tweet whenever I have a new blog entry. Don't worry, I'll put it back on when my posts have become a little more organized. :)

By the way, remember how I talked about starting a new blog? I did start one before, but I haven't been able to update it. Now, I'm thinking about either starting a new one or if I should just continue writing on the other one. Not that I plan on blogging right away - I might start on it in a month or two.

I'm still thinking of making it a niche blog or just a personal blog. Anyway, hope other bloggers will be able to visit it once it's up. :)

I was able to watch an episode of the last season of America's Next Top Model a couple of days ago. It's been awhile, actually, since I watched watching the show since the second season ended - probably because the girl that I wanted to win - April Wilkner - didn't. That's pretty petty of me, right? Haha.

Watching the show made me realize (again) that having a fantastically beautiful face doesn't always get you the prize, seeing as the one whose picture was selected as the top for the week's challenge wasn't exactly the girl who was the prettiest among the bunch. She has a very striking appearance, yes, but not the beautiful, in-your-face, you-get-a-girl-crush-on-her kind of beautiful. :) So for those who secretly want to be a top model someday (obviously, that's not me. Haha.), don't worry if you don't have the perfect skin and face. You could always get a facial or a blackheads removal someday. Of course, you need to watch your figure, make sure it's um, fit for a model.

Okay, enough of that weird and random modeling advice. I'm off to look for another contest to join. :)

Let me talk about romance authors... :)

Posted by austenfan at 10/21/2010 10:53:00 AM 0 comments
I've always been very curious about romance authors. I wonder if they're lives are really as romantic as their books, cause if that's the case, then, wow, they must be very, very happy. Are you a romance author? Or do you have a friend who writes romance books? What are they like?

I mean, are these authors one of those super-slim people who never gets an ounce of fat in their bodies and who probably need to take some weight gain supplements just to increase their weight? Did they each meet a prince charming who swept them off their feet? Or are they (sort of) like me, who dreams of finding my perfect partner - in the most romantic way possible, hopefully! Haha.

Here's one of my favorite romance authors, Lisa Kleypas, who's a former beauty queen, seems very happy with her family, AND who writes fantastic romance novels!

Yay! A contest!

I've heard of foreigners going to the Philippines to avail of services that are much cheaper here, by that I mean education and uh, cosmetic surgeries. Sorry, I can't think of other examples (but I'm pretty sure there are lots more. Haha)! Anyway, so things should be cheaper here, right? Yeah, not necessarily.

I've talked about how much I like reading the Women's Health magazine, so I decided to look it up online to see which actress/model currently graces their international cover. You can just imagine my surprise (and envy) when I saw that 99 cents per issue sign at their site. Wow, that's almost a third of the magazine's price here. You can get all those fast weight loss tips and other diet-related articles for such a low price. Huh. I'm thinking I should probably get a US based friend who can send me those magazines monthly! Haha.

I'm not really sure why magazine prices are so high here... but... well, that's just how it is. How about you? Any ideas on why magazines are so pricey here? :)

I used to...

Posted by austenfan at 10/16/2010 12:32:00 PM 0 comments
Now, I begin this post with another list, entitled "I used to..." which - you got that right - is a list of the things I used to do or be before, and sometimes still do up to now. Haha. Here they are:

  • I used to be really conscious of my pimples. During the start of my teenage years, they just started popping up everywhere, so naturally, I was super conscious of them since everyone around me still had that perfect, flawless skin! I used to obsess about how to treat them. If I've managed to read some proactive reviews back then, I would have tried using it too. It's good that now I only get the occasional pimple or two on my face.
  • I used to be a a big, big fan of the Spice Girls. Wow, I can remember those days when I collected music magazines that mentions their names or has their pictures on them. Ginger Spice was my favorite member back ten so you could just imagine how upset it made me when I learned that she's leaving the group! Almost every song in their albums were a hit, I can't imagine anyone who wasn't a fan of the group. :)
  • I used to love watching cartoon shows like Dexter's laboratory and Little Lulu! Have you ever seen them? Now though, I think I've spent all my love for cartoons since I don't watch Spongebob squarepants as much as some of my friends do. But seriously, tell me. Is that weird of me, cause honestly, I think that's pretty normal and my friends are the ones who are a bit weird. Haha.

A few days ago, I watched the Korean movie "200 Pounds Beauty", which tells the story of an obese girl who decides to undergo a major surgery so she can finally be beautiful and sexy.

as always, image is not mine and was taken from the www

I've read a lot of love stories similar to this one. By that, I mean how an ugly duckling turns into a swan and how the one she's always loved finally notices her. However, this movie still made me (almost) want to cry. Though the filled the movie with funny scenes, they were still able to infuse those *sniff sniff* scenes that'll make you root for the heroine of the film. (Alright, no spoilers from me here.)

By the way, I don't know the Korean actress who starred here, but she looks very familiar to me. Any idea who she is (or where I might have seen her from)?

Cure for the dry lips

Posted by austenfan at 10/16/2010 09:51:00 AM 0 comments
My lips are unbelievably dry. Even though I manage to keep myself hydrated most of the time, they stubbornly remain being irritatingly dry. Plus, I have oily skin, so doesn't it necessarily follow that I shouldn't have dry lips? Apparently, that's not how it goes. But really, sometimes, I get so jealous of girls who have perfect hair, normal skin, luscious figures who probably have no need of the best diet pill for women to keep their bodies fit! Let me put some emphasis on the word "sometimes", cause no matter how much jealous I may be, I don't want people thinking I'm some kind of gorgeous girl-hater. :)

Anyway, going back to the topic... I found this amazingly good lip balm for my lips!

image is from the Blistex official site

It gives my lips a bit of color, which I need especially at times when they look so pale, without looking like I actually applied a lip color on them. Naturally, it also keeps my lips from drying and protects them from the sun. Yep, this one's definitely a keeper! :)

Looking for some blog contests!

Posted by austenfan at 10/14/2010 01:19:00 PM 2 comments
It's been a while since I last joined a blog contest. Do you a good one that's currently running or might start soon? Do tell! I love joining blog contests since while getting a chance to win really cool stuff, you get to meet lots of wonderful bloggers along the way. It's a win-win situation for both the host of the contest and the participants. :)

I used to join a lot of book-related contests (and won some of them), from which I got most of my YA books that are hard to come by here (some of them are a bit expensive too) so it saved me both the money and the hassle of scouring the bookstores looking for those books! So you see, if you haven't tried entering a blog contest before, you definitely should!

I used to plan on hosting my own contest for this blog, but I'll save it for later when I have the money and the time to give out cool prizes.

Have you ever hosted your own blog contest before? How was it? What were the prizes? :)

Sorry I haven't been blog hopping!

Posted by austenfan at 10/11/2010 07:23:00 PM 0 comments
For those blogs which I used to visit, please forgive me if I haven't been able to visit for the past several months. These coming weeks, I think I won't be able to visit other blogs at all since I need to spend less time online. Not to worry though. Once I become a little less busy, I'll be sure to drop by your blogs, read those blog entries, and comment away!

On the other hand, I think this is a good thing too. If I have been able to blog hop more, I might see all these wonderful stories about other people's amazing shopping sprees and go all envious of the new gadgets that everyone seems to be buying these days. Since I'm trying to save up, I can't go ahead and by myself an ipod nano or an ipod touch (no matter how much I really want to)! I already gave my old ipod to my mother, so I really need one. So, buying an iPhone is out of the equation (no matter how good it looks!), and so is buying a tiny iPod shuffle. :) So, with my staying away from these blog entries, I won't be that much jealous, plus, I get to keep and strengthen my resolve to not spend more than what is needed. Haha.

Also, I have a lot of comments to approve! Sorry for the delay, it's just that so many spammers have been posting totally unrelated comments on some of the entries that I had to regulate them so I can manually approve those real and meaningful ones.

They're everywhere.

Posted by austenfan at 10/11/2010 08:16:00 AM 0 comments
Aside from this one, I have a gazillion other blogs, but this is the only one that I get to regularly update. I feel sorry about it, sure, since when I started those blogs, I really did mean to keep posting entries in them. :(

Now, though, I'm planning to create a new one, and this time I really plan to make it an active blog. I want to have more blogs enrolled to PayU2Blog - which is one of the sites where I earn money online - so I can, of course, earn even more. :) I just hope PU2B approves that new blog when I send it to them for review.

How about you? Do you make money online - through your blog or any other means? Do tell how! Maybe I could try it too. :)

Let's save up!

Posted by austenfan at 10/09/2010 10:00:00 PM 0 comments
Lately, I've been becoming really into saving up and trying to learn how to invest money wisely. That sounded very mature and adult-like of me (which is a good thing, might I add). I've recently opened a BPI Maxi-saver account, which earns higher interest than the ordinary savings account. Have you guys heard of it yet? I suggest you try it! If you have some money which you have no plan of spending, just save it there since they'll be giving you an additional 1% interest whenever you don't make a withdrawal in a month. Sounds good, right? :)

Anyway, why did I suddenly become so serious about saving money? Er, why wouldn't I be? It's what everyone should do! :) If someday, you'd like to own a beautiful house, complete with all the appliances and futons with slipcovers, it's what you should do too! And the earlier you start on saving up, the earlier you can get to fulfilling that dream. Forgive me if that sounded like an insurance commercial. Haha.

I'm planning to learn how to invest in stocks too. From what I heard, it's a great source of passive income as well. Do you know anything about it? Care to tell me about it? :)

Post tests for the review have just been concluded so now I need something to take my mind off it, so I don't get crazy stressing myself over it. Well, I should be stressing myself since the date for the real exams is fast approaching, but just for this moment, I think I need to have some relax time - even if it's just for a few minutes or so.

Anyway, have you ever thought how nice it feels to just type and type? Seriously, I love the clicking noise that the keyboard makes every time I punch on one of its letters. It makes me want to keep typing on and on and on. I've become quite adept at typing too, which is probably due to countless hours of staying in front of the computer doing research papers and test plans. Being able to type out words without looking at the keyboard gives me this sort of feeling of fulfillment, no matter how shallow it may seem. :) I'm not sure why, I guess it has something to do with how I've always admired my mother whenever I watch her type without bothering to look at the keyboard (back when I was in grade school, I think). I thought it would really be cool to be able to do that. Now that I can do it as well, I can say that yeah, it is still pretty cool. :)

Women's Health love

Posted by austenfan at 10/07/2010 11:41:00 AM 0 comments
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I LOVE reading Women's Health. In fact, I always make it a point to get a copy of a new issue every month! This month, they have Angel Aquino on their cover and I love them even more for it . :)

Whenever I see one of Angel Aquino's numerous commercials on TV, I can't help but feel admiration (and yeah, a little bit of envy) for her. I mean, come on, have you seen her? She has great skin, hair, pretty face, and a fantastic body - which is, of course, a given since she is after all a model. But still, I know she isn't young, but she still looks like she's in her twenties! No wonder beauty product companies keep picking her as an endorser. With her looks and body, she'll look good in anything - especially with some dereon jeans on!

Okay, this is one reason why reading Women's Health is not good for me. I end up feeling all insecure about my body and jealous of the models with their perfect skin and bodies that always fill the pages of the magazine. Must really get on with my diet! :)

Sometimes, no matter how much you tell yourself that you can't be distracted from whatever it is that you're doing, you just can't help but take a break and look for something - anything - else to do. This is one of those times.

I still have SO much to study. And I need to finish all that before this Saturday aka the day of the review post-exam. You could call it a pre-board exam as well. Anyway, the point is it will be simulating the actual exams so I need to take this one seriously. Though, of course, apparently, not seriously enough since I'm not even halfway through with the scope of the exam. Okay, panicking is not allowed. Haha.

Alright, that's the end of my so-called break. I'll blog again when anything interesting comes up!

Don't have the time for books

Posted by austenfan at 10/03/2010 08:22:00 PM 0 comments
I should really stay away from bookstores. Every time I go inside one, I either end up buying a book or feeling all sad that I wasn't able to buy a book that I really wanted. Besides, I gotta save up. I can't go around buying books now that I'm no longer a student. Saving needs to be one of my priorities now.

All that is not the main reason for my shying away from books, though. If you've been by this blog for more than a couple of times, I'm sure you already know that I'll be taking the board exams this November (since I've been mentioning it in most of my blog entries) so I can't spend a lot of time reading books. Well, I can, with books like chemistry, unit operations, and so on. Haha. :)
