Saturday love

Posted by austenfan at 7/31/2010 03:33:00 PM 0 comments
I really look forward to Saturdays. It's times like these when you can get to just hang around the house or go somewhere else nice and fun and just spend your free time there. That is, if you go to school or have work from Monday to Friday. Going to the mall and Saturdays are also a perfect fit! Here are just some of the fun things to do at the mall on a Saturday:

1. Have lunch and/or dinner at the mall!
I was browsing around the PinoyExchange forum when I happened to chance upon the threads section where all the topics were about... yep, you guessed it right - FOOD! Oooh, I really miss eating out, especially eating at buffets. And I just found out that Don Henrico's - a restaurant that I haven't tried out before (gasp!) also offers buffet! I should definitely try that out sometime.

2. Shopping!
Now, if you haves loads of money (which I don't), this would be a really fun way to spend your time. Seeing that ls2208 scanner work once you purchase all your shopping hauls will definitely provide a rush. :)

3. Go bowling!
I have to confess that I'm not very good at it. However, not being good at it doesn't necessarily mean that I don't enjoy a round or two of playing it. Besides, what better way to get good at it than to practice, right?

My basic routine for relieving myself of stress is either sleeping or reading a really, really good book. It sounds so boring, right? I think I may have to find new ways on how to spend my leisure time. Here are some of my ideas:

  • Take a vacation somewhere with a with a beautiful scenery. Yes, this sounds so good that I can already imagine myself strolling around a vacation house garden, with pretty yet cheap garden lights, just taking in the scenery and breathing in fresh air. *Sigh*
  • Go to the spa and have a massage. I've never been in a spa before so, if ever, this will be a new and exciting experience for me.
  • Go to the beach. Enough said, right?
  • Shopping! Hmm, I might have to save a bit first before I can try this one out. Haha.
  • Er, what else? Study? Now, that would really be a new way to spend some leisure time. :)
That's about it. Can you recommend any other activities to add to the list? :)

Impulse buying

Posted by austenfan at 7/28/2010 10:03:00 PM 0 comments
I hate impulse buying. I really do, but sometimes, I just can't help but give in to it. For example, I recently bought a minerals foundation since I really wanted to try it, and I've heard that it's good for sensitive skin. Only after I've bought it did I start to research on some reviews of the product. It turns out, it does not go that well with those who have oily skin - which I most certainly have. So now, I have the foundation, but I'm hesitant to use it. Now, I think I'll probably never use it and let it just sit there until it has expired. I might also use it a few times at first, then forget all about it later on.

Lesson learned? Before buying anything, make sure you've researched about the product thoroughly. Make sure that it's worth its price and that you will really use it. Money doesn't flow in easily these days. Imagine, I could have saved that money for when I avail a health plan from bcbsnc or buy a new phone. Anyway, I might as well try using it one of these days. Maybe I'll even get to like it. Besides, not all reviews are applicable for everyone. We all have different skin types and reactions to beauty products, right?

Going back to the diet plan

So, I have just found out the new development in my body weight tonight. And let me tell you, it's a bit depressing. Hmm, not really depressing, it's just sad. It's sad that after all losing all that weight, it seems like I'm in a slow but sure path to gaining it all back. Well, that is simply unacceptable. I must change my eating habits soon. It's either I start eating healthy or try using a thermogenic fat burner to lose weight.

Here are some of the things that I need to put back in my daily food intake:
  1. Whole grains - Yes, they are a must-have. Not only do they provide dietary fiber, which helps in flushing out excess fat, they are also digested slower than most of the other food choices so we won't feel hungry after eating only an hour or so ago.
  2. Fruits and vegetables - Okay, we all know they are healthy. Of course, they're good choices if you're planning to lose weight too.
  3. Water - I'm already drinking a lot of water lately, but I think I need to stop drinking those sweetened iced teas and fruit juices as well.
  4. Oatmeal - I'm not sure if this should have been included in the whole grains category. Anyway, oatmeal's also a sure way to get rid of those excess fats and lose body weight.

Whitening needed

Posted by austenfan at 7/27/2010 11:01:00 PM 0 comments
I just bought Neutrogena's new Fine Fairness cleanser. Based from the brand alone, you'd know that it's supposed to whiten the skin, or the face, specifically speaking. And though I don't really have dark skin, my face could still use some whitening powers. Now, I don't really know if it's effective or not. I'm also a bit hesitant to use it since it doesn't seem to promise to provide any natural acne treatment while doing its whitening magic. Nevertheless, I might as well try it, right? Their facial cleanser (the other one without the whitening effect) works just fine for me so maybe this one will too. :)

Actually, I wanted to try their whole line of whitening products - including the toner and the moisturizer, but I was short on cash so those might have to wait. Besides, I should go ahead and try the cleanser first to see if I don't develop any allergic reactions to it. Of course, I really hope I don't. :)

Okay, that's it. I'll definitely blog about it when good results come! :)

These past few weeks, I've noticed that I seem to be letting go of my too-much-need for the internet. Before, I couldn't go on a day without logging on to the net, but now, I feel like I can manage to stay off of it unless I really need to use it. Like now, for instance. :)

So yeah, you could say that that's a bit unusual for me. Oooh, is this another sign of maturity? Maybe yes. Maybe I was just to sleepy that time to spare the time in logging on to the world wide web. Whatever the reason is, well, it still is unusual. Haha.

Another thing that you could say is unusual for me is how I don't seem to be caring at all about my weight. I used to constantly look at the digital scale, hoping that a few pounds have been shed off, but now, I'm all like "Oh I gained a pound. Sad, but I'll make sure that I'll lose it again." My optimism would have been a good thing - if I was doing anything to actually make it come true. Haha. Sure, I still haven't tried reading some diet pill reviews yet, but if I gain a couple more or so pounds, I think I just might start taking a look at them! :) For now, though, I'm gonna stick with staying away from junk food and trying to eat healthy food (I hope).

Sleepy... as usual

Posted by austenfan at 7/25/2010 08:59:00 PM 0 comments
These days, I oftentimes myself feeling sleepy at such an early hour, like, for instance, at nine in the evening. Though that may seem normal for some, it isn't normal for me, who is used to staying up late at night watching some new Korean TV series or just surfing the internet. Yeah, I used to really sleep so late back then, it's a good thing I didn't develop adult cystic acne.

Since getting more sleep is definitely a good thing, you might be wondering what I'm complaining about. Well, it's not exactly about the amount of sleep that I'm getting. It's more like, I haven't been able to do the things that I should have been doing since I've been sleeping so early these days. For example, I haven't been studying as much as I should be for the coming board exams. And let me tell you, I really need to step up my study habits as the exams are fast approaching. Oooh, I'm getting all nervous just thinking about it.

I know, I know. I should probably go ahead and drink some coffee or energy drink to keep myself awake. However, coffee doesn't seem to provide much help on keeping me awake. I dunno, I seem to have become immune to it or something. I guess that leaves me with energy drinks, then.

Looking forward...

I think I mentioned this already, but I'll say it again: Fully Booked is having a sale today and tomorrow for all their discount card holders. If you don't own a Fully Booked discount card, don't worry as there's another sale for their Facebook fans/followers. Oooh, I can't remember if you're supposed to be a Facebook fan or a Twitter follower to qualify. But anyway, you can log on to their website to check the details. :) By the way, the sale is only applicable to their main branch at High Street. That's just fine with me, since that branch has got to be the best bookstore in the country! :)

Okay, I need to control my excitement. Haha. So much for my plan to save, huh? I figured that I can still save - not on books, but on things that I don't have much need for right now. By that, I mean gadgets like a new camera, mp3 player, phone, etc. However, books are books, and I think they'll forever remain as one of my favorite things so I don't dare stop myself from buying them. :)

Anyway, one of the books I'm really looking forward to seeing is the new Gallagher novel by Ally Carter. I heard that it's already out so hopefully, there are still some copies left! Aside from that, I can't really think of must-have-books right now. Hmm, I think I need to do a quick book blog hopping to scour for those fabulously good books! :)

Spend or save?

Posted by austenfan at 7/23/2010 11:03:00 PM 0 comments
I've been trying to save some cash for some things that I would really love to buy. But whenever I get enough money to be able to buy them, most of the time, I back out of my so-called plan. I guess it's just hard letting go of money that you've worked hard for. :) Anyway, here are some of the things that I've been meaning to buy:

1. iPod Touch

I already have an iPod nano, but since I already gave it to my mom, I really need a replacement. Well, I can't think of a better replacement than an iPod touch. Based from the numerous ipod reviews that I've read, it seems like this one's a keeper. :) And oh, the iPod Classic sounds like a good choice too, with its super duper 160 GB capacity!

2. Wii

I'm not really into gaming, but this sure looks fun. I heard it's great for working out too, which would work just fine for me, since I really need to start exercising. Still, I'm a bit hesitant since I don't think I will be able to use it often.

3. Books

Of course, books are on the list! What did you expect? Haha. I need to save up for the Fully Booked sale. By the way, in case you haven't heard, discount card owners will get 20% off on all items on July 25 and 26. :)

4. Samsung Corby Pro

My choice of mobile phone still hasn't changed. Actually, I haven't been reading enough phone reviews to come up with another choice. But anyway, a new phone would be absolutely welcome. :)

After about a whole week of not having access to the internet, not to mention, electricity, I'm back! Or shall we say, the electricity's back. It's been a long, lonely, week. Imagine, I come home every night, having to light candles to have some sort of lighting and open the windows to the room just so the wind (what little there is of it) would come in and put us out of our hot-and-sticky feeling misery. Plus, as our water's supply is mightily dependent on the presence of electricity, we had to conserve that as well! :( I really hope it doesn't happen again any time soon (or ever, please).

So, even though, I've been out of the world wide web for almost a week, it's a good thing I managed to get some access to the internet as I still had some pending online assignments back then. :)

By the way, I'm not a fan of soccer or football. I didn't even watch a single game of the World Cup, but man, those players are gorgeous. I absolutely had no idea. If I had, I tell you, I would have stayed up late to watch all of the games. Hmm, maybe not all of them - just the ones with Iker Casillas. Haha.

So much for my desire to keep the blog entries coming regularly. Not that it's my fault. We've been out of electricity since... well, since the typhoon. And it looks like it's going to stay that way for about a few more days. I'm not sure if you know what I'm talking about, but if you're here in the Philippines, you probably do. Come to think of it, this recent happening has made me consider of looking for a good term life insurance quote, though of course, I'm not sure if I'll be needing it yet.

I probably won't be able to blog for several more days, but I'll definitely try to. Till my next post!

Sleepy, that's me. But still, I need to blog since I'm trying to keep up with my set schedule for blogging. A schedule for blogging - who does that? Well, me, apparently. :)

It's funny how I, along with everybody else, thought that I'll be continuously losing weight for the next several months, what with the constant busyness and all. That was before. Now that I'm back at home, and far away from the metro's ever-fattening fast food restaurants, I should really be losing weight, right? But, as you could already guess from the tone of this entry, that was not the case. At all. Instead, I find myself steadily gaining weight, so quickly that pretty soon, I think I might need to use a top rated diet pill to stop it from increasing more.

In case you want to ask why, here are some of my few suspected culprits:
  • sitting in front of the computer ALL day.
  • And getting up to go get something SWEET to munch on, like:
  • wafers
  • flavored crackers
  • cream filled cupcakes
I know, I know. I don't have a right to complain about this sudden weight gain. In fact, I am to blame for it. Anyway, the only thing I can do now is to try to curb the urge. Hmm, might have to read some self help books. Haha.

Site recommendation: MunchPunch

Posted by austenfan at 7/10/2010 08:45:00 PM 0 comments
A friend of mine suggested that I visit the site Apparently, it contains menus of the different local restaurants here in the Philippines. Isn't that great? Whoever thought of putting up the site is an absolute genius, I tell you. :)

It's especially great for those who wants to try eating at some new restaurants, but hesitate since they're not sure of the prices (like me. haha). And it comes as such a relief when you find out that that restaurant you've wanting to go to isn't so pricey after all! Though, for now, I'm staying away from eating out to save as well as to lose weight. Imagine, I've gained 2.2 lbs in two months! I need to try some diets that work or before I know it, I would have gained more than 5 pounds in a couple more months.

Anyway, let's not talk about unpleasant things and move on to the site. I noticed that the site also provides a list of restaurants that deliver food online. I'm not sure how it works, though, since I haven't tried it myself, but hey, it is pretty neat, huh? :)

Luke Brandon is love.

Posted by austenfan at 7/10/2010 08:29:00 PM 0 comments
So, this afternoon, I've been re-reading my Shopaholic (by Sophie Kinsella) books. Not really reading it fully, just going back to those parts that I loved, which is basically, anything with Luke Brandon in it. :)

Though, of course, all the other Luke-free scenes were a riot too. Becky Bloomwood is this incredibly vibrant girl who's so in to fashion and anything that involves shopping that it makes me want to buy all those wonderful shoes she always seem to be craving for. What's interesting, though, is that I don't think the book has ever mentioned anything about Becky's appearance - the color of her hair, her height, figure, or whatsoever. But I don't think she'd ever need an acne treatment gel since I don't think I've read about her getting any major skin problems or anything. :)

Anyway, if you'd like to read something fun(ny) and would not mind reading about clothes and shoes most of the time, you could try this one. Laugh out loud scenes guaranteed!

FYI, the first book, Confessions of a Shopaholic has been turned into a movie, starring Isla Fisher as the shopaholic Becky Bloomwood herself. :)

It's a little strange that I'm not already sleepy.

Posted by austenfan at 7/08/2010 09:51:00 PM 0 comments
After days of getting really sleepy around this time of the night, it's kinda unusual to find myself still wide awake now. Though, I have to admit, I can feel it coming - the urge to sleep, that is. But before it completely overwhelms me, I need to do something productive. Hmm, I'm pretty sure what that "something" is, but I refuse to say it as I seem to be unable to do it whenever I blog about it. You probably already know what I'm talking about. Haha.

On to a different topic... We moved to the main office today! :) I'm still not sure how to feel about it. On one hand, it's gratifying, to finally be working on something real, something from which the company actually makes a profit. However, it's a far cry from our previous workplace - where the snacks were so near, and we wouldn't have to worry about our every move. The office furniture is a great improvement, though. A bigger desk means more space to put my things (by that I mean my mug, tissue, notebook, pens, etc.) on. There's also more space to move around on. :)

Whoa, I feel so grown up talking about stuff like these. Come to think of it, at twenty, I'm already supposed to be a grown up, right? :)

I wanna know...

Posted by austenfan at 7/07/2010 08:34:00 PM 0 comments
  • why I find Italian names so sexy, or am I not the only one who thinks so? When I hear that someone's Italian, the first thing that comes to my mind is how hot and sexy they might be. What does that make me, right? Haha.
  • why most of the time, I sympathize with the antagonist in a soap/drama. Sometimes, I even find the lead actress in the soap to be extremely irritating. I mean, who wants their lead character to cry around all day and get pushed around without even retaliating a little bit?
  • why I'm a hopeless romantic. Is it because I grew up reading Betty and Veronica and the Sweet Valley series? Uh, I don't know why I said that.
  • who else likes Bruno Mars. Come on, speak up! :)
  • why these days I get sleepy so quickly
  • when I'll next get that giddy feeling again
  • when I'm going to update my other blogs. They badly need updating. Haha.
  • when I'm going to start studying my unit operations. Actually, I think I'll be doing this later. Well, I hope.
  • Er, that's about all I can think of at this moment. I'll blog again when more things come to mind. Haha. :)

Things I'd like to do!

Posted by austenfan at 7/05/2010 09:07:00 PM 0 comments
Of course they're all fun things! :)

1. Go on a vacation somewhere really, really beautiful with my family
It would be nice if I could spend some time with my family, with us just relaxing and hanging out. It doesn't matter where, as long as it's beautiful and relaxing. Forgive me for using the word relaxing again, I'm running out of adjectives! Haha. Come to think of it, the phrase 'it doesn't matter where' does not really fit the rest of the sentence. :)

2. Get a massage
I've never gotten a massage. Ever. I mean, one where trained hands do it and where the venue is an actual spa. It'll surely ease whatever back and joint pain that I sometimes experience. But first, I need to scout which spas offer the most affordable services (without sacrificing the quality, of course).

3. Read a book
I always want to read something fun and romantic. That's why whenever I have free time, I'm always itching to read a new book. By the way, if you have any new recommendations, don't hesitate to drop me a comment. :)

4. Study!
I know I've been saying this a lot, but I really need to catch up with a lot of lessons. Must start studying seriously soon!

Hmm, I should really prepare a timeline for these things. :)

Driving and me (before, at least)

Posted by austenfan at 7/04/2010 04:29:00 PM 0 comments
A year ago, I took to driving lessons even though (no, I'm not a rich kid), I don't have my own car. But I figured it's something that I'm eventually gonna need to learn, plus, knowing how to drive is sort of cool, ya know? :) Who would not want to drive something sleek, like a Ford Explorer (not that we had one. Haha.)? So I signed up for some lessons thinking that it'll be fun and all that. And it was. For the first part, anyway. It's incredible that in just a matter of 2 hours, I already knew how to drive - not drive well, but I mean, I was able to make the car move in a straight path and managed not to bump into anything, which was fortunate, or else I would have had to enlist the help of a repair shop. If I was in LA, I'd be needing some Los Angeles auto repair help. Of course, that was with the driving instructor's help.

Here comes the not-so-good part. I don't like it when I get reprimanded for something that I think is not really a big deal, especially if the said reprimand did not come from my parents. Well, a similar situation happened during one of my driving lesson sessions. My instructor told me that I was not practicing enough and that I have to do try harder. I don't know why those words really got to me. Maybe because they're true, or maybe because they were delivered in a hurtful manner. I just know that after that, I grew weary of attending driving lessons.

Nevertheless, I think I still remember the basics of driving and I'd still like to learn more about the process. I want to know, like what a head gasket is, or how to change a car's tires, and other car-related things. Hmm, I'm not sure about the latter part, it sounds like too much of a guy thing to do. :)

Some updates...

In case you were wondering what I've been up to since I last posted an entry here (which, in this case, was just yesterday), besides using the eye cream I bought to get rid of the dark circle under my eyes? Well, let me tell you that... I've just created another blog. :) Crazy, I know. I don't know what came over me, but I suddenly found myself clicking the Create a Blog link on my Blogger account.

Anyway, do check it out Where Everything Is Random (yes, that's the blog name) now! Right now, it only has a single blog entry, but like I said there, I'll definitely try to blog more often. Hmm, who knows? There might be a new entry in a few hours... Haha.

By the way, if you could add my new blog to your blogroll, that would be really great. Since it's so new, I'll be trying out some SEO tactics that I know to get it acquainted with the big, bad (not really) world wide web. If you want to help, like I said, that would be great, even awesome. :)

What are you still doing here? Go check out the new blog already! And tell me what you think of the layout, and the blog, of course. :)

Needs to save more...

Posted by austenfan at 7/03/2010 03:08:00 PM 0 comments
By the way, SM Mall of Asia is having a mid year sale this June 2 to 11, so yes, if you want to splurge and finally buy that pretty thing you've had your eye on for the past couple of weeks, now is the time to do so! :) [I'm not sure if all SM malls are on sale too, but you might want to check them out too.]

Since I've been slacking on continuing my daily beauty regimen (I'm not even sure you could call it that as it's so basic. Haha.), I went ahead and bought myself a few things to help me get back to taking better care of my skin.

First, an eye cream! Finally! This will be the first time that I'll be using one since before, I did not feel that I have to use one. Now though, I've been noticing these annoying lines under my eyes and, of course, let's not forget about the dark circles! I hope the eye cream can help with that too. I also thought about buying a new acne treatment cream, but in the end, I went ahead with the eye cream since I'm still pretty happy with the cream I currently use.

I also bought an exfoliating scrub for those irritating blackheads on my cheeks. I'm not sure if the scrub'll help treat them, but it's good for preventing the development of more blackheads. :)

And now, I get to the title of this entry. I need to save more - for more upcoming mall sales! :)
