Still at the dorm

Posted by austenfan at 3/29/2010 04:09:00 PM 0 comments
I've been here for over a month now. And if you know me, you'd know that I (most of the time) prefer to go home on weekends than stay at the dorm. I think this applies to a lot of other people too. :) But, as I've been saying for several weeks now, I can't. I've still got things to do (academics-related things) so I can't just impulsively go home, no matter how much I want to.

This is sounding more and more like an irritating rant. Sorry for that. But I'm getting tired of my room here at the dormitory already, with our windows that badly need some roller blinds, the too narrow bed, and (nooo!) no refrigerator to store some chilled drinks in. At least we've got a TV so I still get to watch some shows that like (the number of which is very, very limited, by the way). And yes, we've got internet access too. :) Though it could use a bit of speeding up. Haha.

Till my next post again! I'm hoping I'll be typing that up at home. :)

Still awake!

Posted by austenfan at 3/26/2010 02:07:00 AM 0 comments
It's 2:07 AM and I'm still awake! Yay! For the past days, I can't seem to make myself stay up late to finish what needs to be well, finished. So yeah, I should definitely make the most out of this I'm-still-awake time. :) The books I borrowed from the library are already overdue, must return them! Er, I need to have them photocopied, then return them. Waaah! Lots more to do! Stress is now a constant companion of mine. :(

We're so sleep-deprived these days that my friend said we should sleep for the whole month of April, after we're through with all our academic requirements! Can't wait for vacation! :) And for some fun and leisure. I miss jogging (well, more like walking) during the weekends and staying up late for no reason at all. I miss reading books, which reminds me, I still have a couple of books that I need to review.

I miss watching Chuck and seeing him wear a tuxedo whenever he goes on a mission. I miss good food! I'm talking home-cooked meals. Oooh. I'm getting excited just thinking about it. *Sigh* But as I said before, I need to focus. I can do this! [Yes, I'm cheering myself up once again.] :)

Blogging stuff

Posted by austenfan at 3/25/2010 09:07:00 PM 0 comments
So I thought I'll post some things about blogging in case there's someone out there reading this who would also like to create his or her own blog. :)

Okay, first you need to decide where you want to host your blog. You can use Blogger, Wordpress (free or self-hosted) or Livejournal. There are others out there, but these three seems to be the popular ones. Of course, there's also Tumblr (haven't tried this one, though) but people with accounts here seem to be using theirs as some sort of photoblog (I think, I don't really spend much time lurking around Tumblr accounts.)

After that, you need to pick a blog name. This can be super fun and also a bit difficult since it can be quite hard to pick a unique name and address. You definitely want your blog to stand out so you should pick one that doesn't just say "My Blog" or "'s blog". [My apologies to those who use those for their blog. :)]

Then you need to decide on what you'll be writing about. If you want to talk about everything you can think of, you're probably rooting for a personal blog. If you want to talk about money, books, or even auto insurance, then that's a specific content blog, or as it is more aptly termed, a niche blog.

Now, you can write your very first entry! :) Talk about whatever it is you decide you want to talk about. It's your blog so feel free to do so! Just as long as you're not violating anything. :) After which, just keep on posting more and more articles.

To work on your blog's traffic, you might want to join sites/programs like Entrecard and hmm, actually, that's the only one I use. Haha. Also, visit other blogs! Comment on some of their posts and they'll be sure to visit yours too. :)

Hmm.

Once again, the photo is taken from the www.

Chuck. One of the things that I look forward to every week. And yes, I really look forward to it. With the current state of things at school, sometimes, I need to find ways to relax and stay worry-free even for only about 40 minutes. I highly recommend it to everyone (in case you haven't watched an episode of it yet I'm telling you, you're missing out, seriously.

My daily routine for this week - actually I think it's been going on for about a month - consists of exams and papers. :( STRESSED. Sometimes, I just want to take a break - maybe go and see some Outer Banks vacation homes or something. But no, I need to stay focused. I need to work harder and do what needs to be done. :) Okay, I can do this! Talk about cheering myself up. Haha. Er, maybe you want to cheer me up? :)

Anyway, don't you worry. I'll definitely keep on blogging despite my busy busy schedule. (I know! As if you read all my posts. Haha.)

How to not sleep?

Posted by austenfan at 3/20/2010 08:20:00 PM 1 comments
Does anyone have a very effective technique? Cause I badly need to learn it. I have super duper many things to do this week. And the week after that. I tried drinking coffee before and it did work. But I'm beginning to think that that was just luck since it had absolutely no effect on me yesterday. I slept way too early. Actually no, it was kinda late but I wasn't able to get anything important done so I consider it as early. :p

Okay, back to the topic. Any suggestions? Some of my classmates have tried energy drinks. I've never tried it so I'm a bit hesitant to start now. I've been hearing mixed reactions about it. Yeah, energy drinks can help you stay awake but they say you'll end up awake and... unable to think properly. That didn't sound right. More like not really energized, just awake. Of course, I'm not sure if this is true. :)

I think I'm going to need an inspiration. Maybe a new crush? Haha. Give me someone cute! Someone as cute as these custom koozies would be nice. I need someone cute. Think Robert Pattinson (ok, this depends on if you find him cute. Haha.) Think James McAvoy. Or anyone, really. As long as they're cute. Uh, I'm beginning to sound crazy here.

Received one of the best advices ever.

Posted by austenfan at 3/19/2010 07:48:00 AM 1 comments
Yesterday, me and my batchmates attended a talk given by the chairman of the PRC (Professional Regulation Commission). You know PRC? Where we get our license to become future chemical engineers? :)

Anyway, I had a great time during the talk. Though I didn't learn what exactly are the kind of questions to expect in the board exams, it (the talk) did give me an overview of the topics that I need to review for the exam.

But actually, my favorite part of the talk came after all the things about the board exam have been discussed. I can't remember the exact lines but it went a little something like, "After college, if you need to work, then do so. Somewhere along the way, in maybe five to ten years, you'll figure out what you really want in life." After I heard that, I realized that what she said was very true. We (well, I) don't know what'll happen after school. Don't get me wrong. I already have an idea of what I want to become and what I want to do in life, but when we're about there? I don't know. I might discover a passion for something else. So I guess I learned that, (1) I should not rush things, and that (2) I need to keep an open mind.

So I'll leave you with that thought(s).

In the meantime I'll get back to thinking about chocolates. Not as a food. I'm still on a diet (but haven't started taking weight loss supplements), mind you. The chocolates part is for academic purposes. :) Seriously. :) Okay, I'll get back to my chocolate books now.

Thinking of creating another blog

Posted by austenfan at 3/18/2010 02:02:00 PM 1 comments
I currently have four blogs.

Reader: You have 4 blogs?! Whaat? How? Where?

Yes, I have four blogs. But right now, I only get to update two of those blogs: this blog and my book blog, Reality Bites... Fiction Does It Better!. [By the way, hope you can visit that one. You'll get to know all about the books I read!] Based from my experience as a book blogger, I can say that I'm really starting to like niche blogging a lot. In case you don't know: Niche blogging is blogging about a certain topic or subject - like book blogging. No matter how much I write randomly on this blog, sometimes, it's kinda hard to think about what to write. At times, I even feel like I have blogged about everything I could possibly blog about. [It's actually weird that I'm writing about this. Haha.]

That's why I like niche blogging. With it, you always know what you need to write about. You won't have to pick a single idea from among the bazillion things running through your mind at that time. I think it also does a lot for your SEO too. Okay, don't ask me what SEO means cause I don't know; I've only heard about it from other bloggers. It has something to do with your site's ranking, I think. Going back to the topic... Here's what we have so far:

1. I want to create a new blog.
2. I'm thinking of making it a niche blog.

Now, the question is 'What kind of niche blog?'. What should I talk about? Should I make a review blog like www.phisoderm.org? Or a food blog?[Hmm. That sounds good.] Or a health and diet tips blog [Ooooh! I really like this one!] How about a movie review blog? Can you think of another kind of niche (that you think I can write about?).

Though I guess the ultimate question here is: Can I update all three (or five) blogs (if ever) regularly? :)

Before I go into research and plant design mode...

Posted by austenfan at 3/17/2010 08:26:00 AM 0 comments
This week (as well as the next week) will be very busy for me. Though I hope I'd still get to regularly update this blog. After all, what's taking 5 minutes off to create a blog entry, right? Anyway, I'm feeling kinda down lately due to some er, things, that I'd rather not discuss. :p I need cheering up! Someone please cheer me up! Haha. I don't care if it's a silly knock-knock joke or watching a funny-cheesy movie. If it's going to make me feel better, I'm all for it! :)

I know, I know. I should probably just watch a new episode of Chuck and Gossip Girl. I'm sure that'll make me feel better. Speaking of which, are the new episodes already out yet (for online streaming)? But then again, that'll probably take hours and hours to load, what with our dorm's super slow internet connection. :( And I don't think I'm in the mood to see Nate, who looks like he just used testosterone cream, pant over Serena (while Serena does the same). Don't get me wrong though. I like seeing the two of them together. I just don't like seeing them together for most of the show. There are other more important and interesting characters! Like Chuck and Blair! :)

Okay, so another episode of Chuck it is. Let me just check if our internet connection permits to watch it...

Random thought

Posted by austenfan at 3/15/2010 08:46:00 AM 0 comments
Have you ever had that thing you did in the past that you seriously, seriously regret? I do. Truthfully, I don't get people who say n0-regrets-at-all-everything-that-I-did-has-helped-me-become-a-better-person-blah. I mean, I understand that a bad experience is still an experience. And having said that, I also believe that those regrets have helped me become a better person. But not regretting them at all? I just wouldn't say that.

You see, when I regret something, it's because I believe that I could have done better. I could have done or said things which could've made things great. I could have made the right choice. That sounds like a much better thought (than saying the no-regrets-at-all line), right?

Okay, a sort of disclaimer here. This blog entry was not supposed to dis those who feel differently about the subject. That's just from my point of view. I understand that we all have very different and incomparable experiences in life so naturally, we may also differently about it.

Enough of that random and emo-ish post. Need to study for my exam! :)

Gossip Girl love

Posted by austenfan at 3/14/2010 11:32:00 PM 0 comments
I know that an increasing number of people have been writing this show off their to-wait-for-the-next-episode list. But I'm still hooked. I'm thinking it's mostly due to Chuck and Blair or, as they're more popularly known, Chair. :)

The other characters are just well, other characters. Okay, Serena fans, come and hit me now. But seriously, the new Serena-Nate is a bit boring, don't you think?

Anyway, new episode tomorrow! Yay!

Gimme some good books!

Posted by austenfan at 3/11/2010 05:16:00 PM 0 comments
Though my to-be-read pile is still steadily increasing, I find that I would really love to hear which books other people are loving lately. So go ahead! Leave me a comment telling me which book you recently fell in love with and why so I can add it to my growing TBR pile too! I have a lot of great book recommendations for you guys too. Okay, here's one. I'm pretty sure you've all heard good things about The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. And let me tell you, it is SO good, you definitely won't be disappointed!

You'll get an intense plot and yes, heart-pounding action. In fact, I'm sure you'd get so caught up in the book, you'd imagine hearing the beating of stainless steel drums in anticipation to what happens next! :) And the sequel, Catching Fire, is just as good (or maybe even better!).

Btw, don't forget to tell me your book recommendations! :)

Oooh, I like!

I've had my phone for more than 3 years now, and let me tell you that it looks like I've had it for longer than that! The casing has scratches all over. Even the screen has a dent! But I don't really care much about having the latest phone model or a super stylish one; as long as it works just fine, it's good enough for me! :)

But lately, I've been eyeing this little piece of beauty!

image taken from the www

Touchscreen! QWERTY keypad! WiFi! What's not to like?!

I need to save up though if I really want it. And of course, look for a job. Maybe even do a finance job search? Anyway, I'm still debating whether I should get a new phone or a netbook.

How 'bout you? Would you want a new phone or a netbook? :)

Sometimes I think I'm kinda weird.

Posted by austenfan at 3/08/2010 02:27:00 PM 0 comments
Because...
  1. I cry easily. As in very easily. I cry over books. I cry over movies and TV shows. And yes! Sometimes, I even cry when I hear a particularly romantic and sappy song. That's not normal, right? Or is it? Tell me, please, and save me from feeling like such an overemotional girly girl! :)
  2. I have this sort of OC habits, like making sure my utensils are properly arranged after I've eaten a meal, making sure my slippers are, um, together (as in they're a pair) before I leave the house, repeatedly making sure that my phone's alarm is set (ok, this isn't weird, just very cautious), and a lot more.
  3. I'm a hopeless romantic and a realist at the same time. Yeah, I don't even know how to explain that one.
  4. I'm scared of animals - cats, dogs... you name it. I'm not an animal-hater, I'm just scared of them.
  5. Recently, I've sort of become obsessed with checking out my weight every now and then. Though, I've read that this is advisable, especially if you want to do a quick trim on your weight. Er, so that one wasn't really weird.
But I guess each of us have our own unique (and queer) characteristics. Admit it, there's a weirdo in all of us. Pardon the cheesiness. Haha.

Chocolate, cooperate please.

I'm now encoding the responses for our chocolate sensory evaluation. I really really hope this turns out great. It must turn out great. After all, this is our research we're talking about. The oral responses seemed okay, but I hope their questionnaire answers are the same! :)

Speaking of chocolates, I'm really craving for...

image is from Wikipedia

It's been so long since the last time I took a bite of Yan Yan! *Sigh*

Anyway, I'm gonna go back to our data now. Hope I don't stress out over the results much, or else I'm going to need to use a wrinkle cream super pre-maturely. Okay, back to working with Excel. Have a great Sunday, everyone! :)

Things to do

Posted by austenfan at 3/06/2010 08:38:00 PM 0 comments
Busy, busy weeks ahead! The end of the semester is near so naturally, that means exams and papers! That said, I don't think I'll be able to blog hop and leave comments on your blogs (though I will try :p)

Ok, just to remind myself, I'm making a list.
  1. Data analysis for our research!
  2. Plant design revisions
  3. Exams (must study early!)
  4. Book reviews (I am so behind)
  5. all of that while, of course, still maintaining my diet plan! I haven't tried using adipex yet; I'm still trying to do this the natural way. So far, I'm doing great. Well, I hope so. :)
By the way, I saw Marc Nelson earlier at The Fort. Isn't that just fab?! Haha. He's gorgeous. :)

TIRED!

Posted by austenfan at 3/05/2010 10:10:00 PM 0 comments
Earlier, we had a plant visit at a sugar plant somewhere in Batangas. I've heard not-so-good things about it prior our tour so I already prepared and told myself that this isn't going to be an easy trip. But when we got there... WHOA. It was so freaking hot! The equipment was so loud we couldn't hear what the one conduction the tour was saying. We had to go up and down very steep staircases. And let's not even talk about the smell!

As if that wasn't enough, we had some car (bus, actually) problems and ended up stranded on the road for a long time. We arrived at Tagaytay (to eat) around 3 PM, and had our lunch by 4 PM. *Sigh* If every day goes like this, I'm sure I won't be needing to look for foods that burn fat to help me lose weight. The exhaustion alone could do that!

Anyway, I still have to prepare for our Scrabble tournament tomorrow. Yeah, right. Haha. I'd probably only try to familiarize myself with some two-letter words and get some sleep. :)

My diet progress, again.

Posted by austenfan at 3/04/2010 05:20:00 PM 5 comments
It seems like I'm gonna have to make this a weekly feature. Regular updates regarding my diet plan are becoming a habit. Not sure if that's good or bad. :p

Today I'll be talking about certain impediments to my plan that I encounter daily. Some times I manage to fight off my cravings, but at other times, well, let's just say I'm not always successful in keeping them out. :)

  1. Rice - Why oh why I can't I seem to totally take this off my daily menu? Even though I've reduced my rice intake, I don't think what I'm doing this enough. I need to switch to half a cup of rice per day. Or no rice at all.
  2. Sodas and powdered juices - Fast food restaurants don't always offer water so I have no choice. Speaking of which,
  3. Fast food - When I'm out with fellow students going on a plant visit or something, sometimes, there's just no other option.
  4. Sweets! - Cookies, chocolates, chips... very hard to resist. Haha.
I'm thinking of adding exercise to my 'plan'. I've read and heard that it helps a lot! Those health buffs who regularly use treadmills and ellipticals sure look great. Though I don't know if I have the time (and money) to go to a gym. :)

Till my next food-and-weight related post!

Me? Get a credit card?

Posted by austenfan at 3/03/2010 08:54:00 PM 2 comments
Last week, a bank representative called me. Since I was at school at that time, they asked me to call them back. I have to admit, I was a bit worried about the call. All I could think of was "What did I do? Nothing wrong I hope". :p Little did I know that I should't have been that anxious - all they did was tell me I got a pre-approved credit card! I immediately declined it, berating myself for even being anxious about the call.

Why wasn't I interested in getting a credit card? I guess I'm just a bit skeptical if I can handle using one. I mean, I'm still a student! And I don't know if I can control my sporadic book-buying urges. :)

But if ever I do get one, a credit card that is, I think I'd probably look first for a credit repair service which can help me to fix credit (though I hope I wouldn't have to!). I'm sure there are a lot of companies that I can hire. I've seen this site that seems to have a professional approach to credit repair. I'm not claiming to be an expert at these sort of things, but if you ever find yourself needing help with your credit, I hope this helps!

Women's Health, I heart you!

Posted by austenfan at 3/01/2010 05:11:00 PM 1 comments
Since I got a free back issue of Women's Health from one of the seminars at school, I've loved it! The magazine is full of articles regarding weight loss, which is just perfect for my current, uh, goal. :) I've learned a lot of eating do's and dont's from it, and I can say that they've helped me in gradually changing my outlook on food and nutrition. I love the celebrities' health/weight loss stories too! Though, they don't really do anything special aside from the usual weight loss tips, it's still quite entertaining and inspiring to read their experiences. :)

It's not all about losing weight, though. The magazine also features nutrition tips, beauty and shopping lists, and even some private (ehem) stuff I'm sure every girl is curious about.

I'll be sure to get a copy of this month's issue, featuring Judy Ann Santos. [I'm really curious about her diet plan as I know that she really did a great job with shedding off a few (or more) pounds!]
