I love my planner!

Posted by austenfan at 1/31/2010 10:30:00 AM 0 comments
Over the past couple of years, I've bought planners to help me get my plans organized and to prevent me from forgetting to do them. Sadly, I'd use them for about a month, but afterwards, I'd just stop writing in them, telling myself that I'm going to do said plans anyway so why bother to write about it in the first place?

But this year, with the help of my coffee-loving relatives, I was able to get my first ever Starbucks planner! So far, I'm really loving it. :)

It looks cute, right?

And here are my random notes for the week...

The pages are so smooth. And I love the smell! [Yes, I sniff books so it makes sense that I will do the same for this planner. :)] Plus, there are freebie coupons at the back - you can get an extra drink, espresso shot, and/or a free upsize of your drink! I did say that I love it, right?

But before I go overboard, let me just say that I've only been using this planner for a month (it has reached my stop-writing-in-the-journal mark!) so after a month or so later, we'll see how it goes - if its gorgeousness and awesomeness can still keep me writing.

Change in Time

Posted by austenfan at 1/29/2010 07:04:00 PM 0 comments
Lately, I've realized that the concept of time has evolved significantly. During ancient times, people were able to tell time by observing the position of the sun or through the use of a sundial (Is that right?) Then, with the help of technology and different civilizations that have come and passed, the current mode of telling/saying the time came to be.

Now though, people have a different way for setting the time. A few days ago, I overheard my roommate telling someone on the phone (Honestly, I didn't mean to eavesdrop! I just couldn't help but hear it.), "Call me after PBB" (Pinoy Big Brother). [For my non-Filipino readers, Pinoy Big Brother is a reality show here in the Philippines where different people from different walks of life live together in a single roof for a set period of time.]

Just a random image about time. :p

I don't know if this applies to everyone, but I'm certain people around my age (college students) do this often. It just doesn't seem like such a huge matter if we don't do things we're supposed to do on the dot. Like if we decide to meet up, we arrive at different times; some may come early, others arrive right on time, and then there are those who come late. But this doesn't seem to bother us that much (unless someone comes, like, an hour or so late). I don't know why, really. Maybe it comes with age? Or your status in life?

From a professional point of view, this current concept of time seems a bit disturbing. But from a people-who-hates-uptight-people perspective, it's all cool and well. :)

Someone teach me how to walk in high heels!

Posted by austenfan at 1/27/2010 09:49:00 PM 2 comments
Seriously, how do you people (who can walk perfectly well in high heels) manage it? Does it come with the length of time you've been using it? Or did you just slip on those lovely pumps one day and voila! - You're strutting your stuff like a model!

These look so cute! :) (You can buy a pair from the Topaz Horizon)

I don't know why but I don't think I'll ever be able to walk in such high heels without tripping and twisting my ankle. Well, I tried it once (during my pictorial for the college yearbook) and I managed not to fall over, but I'm afraid that that was just a fluke! >_<

Then again, maybe I just need to practice. After all, practice always makes better, right? Just like in math problems. Or memorizations. Or trying to learn an instrument. Though that last bit didn't really work for me. :p

Anyway, I vow to learn how to walk in high heels gracefully and elegantly. But I'm not setting time limits on myself so that could take years. Hopefully, sooner than that. I really hope it's sooner. I could use the added (faux) height!

Thinking of taking down my Nuffnang ads

Posted by austenfan at 1/26/2010 06:03:00 PM 4 comments
I haven't been able to re-install my Nuffnang ads after my little blog overhaul. Now, I'm thinking of keeping it that way. I used to get the occasional ads from Nuffnang before but since my traffic went down a bit and I stopped putting all three of their ad units on my blog, my blog has not been assigned any ad campaigns. I'm not blaming Nuffnang here. I know a lot of other blogs get more traffic than mine does so them getting all the ads is definitely understandable.

Take a look at my current earnings from almost a year of displaying Nuffnang ads on my blogs:

I have to earn 1,750.24 pesos before I get paid! :( It'll probably take several more years before I reach that. *Sigh*

That said, I hope you won't think that I'm dissing Nuffnang; I'm not. I'm merely expressing my decision to not put up their ads anymore. If you're a Nuffnang blogger who regularly gets ads from them, then you're lucky! Hope you'll be able to claim your earnings soon!

I'll sure miss their cool Analytics feature, though. :)

Who plays Scrabble?

Posted by austenfan at 1/25/2010 04:30:00 PM 2 comments
Ever since I learned how to play Scrabble, I've liked it. I like how everyone has equal chances to win. It's not like Chess, where you have to plan your moves and always be in defensive mode. Scrabble largely depends on what tiles you get. If you get the premium tiles [X, J, Z, Q], then you're lucky. You can return a high-scoring move. But if you get a set of tiles that looks like this - U-I-I-I-O-U-L, then you better think hard for a word to squeeze into the game table. Or better yet, go for a Change, where you can change your tiles (at the expense of a move) and hope that your opponent's rack looks similar to yours before so he/she can't do away with a high score.

In high school, I was a member of the 'Scrabble Club'. No, we were not the best in Scrabble in our school. We're just the ones who didn't want to join the choir, the dance clubs, or the varsity teams; thus, we ended up at Scrabble Club. Well, I speak for myself. Maybe there's someone there who's genuinely addicted to playing scrabble. :p Anyway, now in college, due to the same reasons I mentioned, I decided to take up Scrabble as the last one in my required PE (physical education) classes.

Is it fun? Yes, in the sense that I have fun playing scrabble because I like doing it.
And no, because it gets me frustrated and a bit angry at times.

Especially when an opponent puts a word like this,

Q-U-E-E-K

and I'm too much of a chicken to challenge it. After which, said person then goes on to put an S at the end of the word [with something else across]. Argh.

Oh well, I don't blame my opponent. I blame myself. For not taking risks. This is, after all, competitive scrabble.

________

I found out that queek is actually a word (meaning queer geek), but still! I'm sure it's not an acceptable Scrabble word. :p

Wordology (3)

Wordology is a weekly feature here wherein I introduce a new word - any word, as long as it's new and fun (er, sometimes). :)

weexiness n. a feeling a person gets after having just gone through his/her tremendous list of exams, homeworks, etc.

Example Someone better snap her out of her state of weexiness or she won't ever get around to studying for her next exam!

If you have any new words you'd like to share, then tell me in the comments section! :)

Superman on Chuck!

Posted by austenfan at 1/19/2010 05:17:00 PM 2 comments
At first, I was all like, "Who is this insanely gorgeous guy who just showed up?".

After a second... "Wait, he looks very familiar..."

After a few more seconds... *Ting* [or let me just call it a lightbulb moment sound]...
Superman! Brandon Routh!

image is from Just Jared. I'm not claiming it so I hope I'm not committing copyright infringement. :)

Oooh. I can't wait for episode 5 [Kristin Kreuk guest stars]! :)

Happy Blog Anniversary!

Posted by austenfan at 1/17/2010 07:10:00 PM 3 comments
WOW. I almost let the day pass without remembering that today, Quintessential Babble turns a year old! I made my first entry here - it's nothing special, just a Hello world! kind of post. :p

Since then, the blog has undergone a lot of changes. From the too-many-too-count widgets I've installed and un-installed to the templates I've experimented on using - yeah, it definitely feels a year (or more) old. And of course, I would not dare forget all those who've visited here and shared their thoughts with me. Thank you all for inspiring me to keep on blogging! [Ooookay, getting a bit melodramatic here.]

Now, I'm hoping my second year of blogging will be even better. I'll try to blog more often, interact with readers more, and just, be an overall, better blogger. :)

Have you ever made one? If you had and it turned out great, kindly drop me a comment and share w/ me the recipe that you used! :)

Of course I'm not expecting anything fancy like this bar of Cadbury here. If it looks like chocolate and tastes like chocolate, that's ok. Thanks!

Anime, here I come!

Posted by austenfan at 1/08/2010 07:55:00 AM 0 comments
I've expressed of bringing back my enthusiasm for anime before, but this time, it seems like I really must try to watch anime shows again. My friend always talk, some of the book bloggers love it, and even my new roommate is addicted to it! Well, I wouldn't say addicted since I only caught her watching anime from her laptop one time, but still. :)

It's a good thing that with I can now just go and watch anime online. Unlike before, where I had to wait and (desperately) hope that the local networks would decide to acquire the rights to the particular anime that have caught my eye at that moment. And right now, that anime happens to be Idaten Jump, which based from the short description I've read, seems full of action, adventure, and - of course - FUN!

image is not mine and was taken from the www.

Now, don't you want to watch anime too? If you're a girl and not really into action and adventure, there are also light and romantic shows that I'm sure you'll just love. Become a fellow anime fanatic! Learn more About Anime now! :)

Sophia Bush and a Book

Posted by austenfan at 1/06/2010 10:52:00 PM 1 comments
This is totally random but I couldn't help but point it out.

I was (book) blog hopping when I saw this book cover of What I Wore to Save the World by Maryrose Wood:

Now, doesn't the model look like someone? A One Tree Hill cast member someone?

Once again, the image is not mine and was taken from somewhere in the www.

I rarely see models from book covers who look like celebrities. In fact, I think this is the first one I've seen. If you've noticed some more book cover - celebrity lookalikes before, do leave a comment, 'kay? :)

Talking about videos

Posted by austenfan at 1/03/2010 09:22:00 PM 3 comments
I'm a fan of online videos. They're so convenient. You can watch almost anything - be it the latest news or just anything interesting - through them. And I'm not the only one who thinks that they're great. In fact, millions of people watch online videos everyday using several sites that offer video hosting. I like watching videos but I've never uploaded one online. However, I know that lots of people do. If you're tired of the same old hosting that you use and you want to try professional video hosting, you may try using the Viddler online video for business.

Though I mainly use online videos to watch TV shows and (at times) movies, you can also get information from them. To do so, just log on to some of the popular informative sites. If you're looking for some business news, try checking out a CNN Business Video. But if you want read something about any other topics, those are easily available on the internet too.

Hope that helped! :)

Blog Anniversary coming up

Posted by austenfan at 1/03/2010 01:58:00 PM 1 comments
I just realized that this blog will be turning a year old this coming January 17. This blog has been present for almost a year already? Whoa. It still feels the same as when I first wrote my first entry. I don't know if I've improved (when it comes to blogging), though I really hope so.

I hope I could do something special to all my readers, like maybe host a giveaway or something... but that would just be to expensive. :( Anyway, let's see if I can come up with something - maybe give away Entrecard credits? :)

____

Btw, I'm sorry I missed Wordology yesterday (I got distracted by Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols - every girly girl looking for a warm and romantic book should read it)!

I wanna go swimming...

Posted by austenfan at 1/01/2010 03:17:00 PM 0 comments
Vacation's almost over and I have yet to really take an out-of-the-ordinary-vacation-time-recreation. You know what I would really love to do? Go swimming! I think it's been two years since I last took a dip in a pool, or any other aquatic body for that matter. Though, I don't claim to be all that good at swimming. :p I took swimming lessons before (as well as in school) but I'm still the same old enthusiastic-but-not-great-at-swimming. I don't think I'll ever be good at any kind of sports. :( Haha.

I am no Michael Phelps. Make that a big NO. :)
image taken from the www. (not mine, ok?)

The Myrtle Beach Resort looks like a place where I can show off my swimming abilities (or lack thereof). The place looks perfect for a fun trip with my family. If you're not up to using the pool, you can even go to the beach! Oooh, I really want to go to that Resort in Myrtle Beach now! But first, I gotta save up and earn some more money so I can stay at the Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotel soon.

But for now, I'll settle with a nearby pool to satisfy my swimming urges. :)

Let me just say
