MRT - the train that's always packed

Posted by austenfan at 2/28/2009 10:50:00 PM
I love the MRT (Manila Metro Rail Transit System). Really. Especially in my first two years in college when I used to go from UP all the way home to Cavite. Back then, once I'd taken my seat on one of its blue benches, all the tension and exhaustion from my Math and Chem filled days seem to drain out of me. Now though, I noticed that more and more people are starting to love it too. Proof? The neverending stream of passengers. It's so rare that you'll find yourself a seat if you didn't get on at the first train station.

See the picture above? That's not the normal count of passengers. Thrice the number of people in the picture is more like it.

What's really annoying about it (except from the having to stand and that you have to squeeze your way through to get on and off it) is the lack of handles/handle-y things to hold on to when you're forced to stand. So what do you do? Balance. And I tell you, this is extremely hard to do, particularly when the train slows down or passes a curved path. You'll likely fall over the other passengers if you don't catch yourself quickly enough. Actually that's not so bad. Definitely better than falling down on the the floor. haha.

So before they have more expansion and connecting stations plans, please please please please, acquire more trains first!

Disclaimer: I don't hate MRT. It's the opposite, in fact. It'd just be nice to be able to seat once in a while and not have to practice self balance in a train. :)

Yes the MRT is a beautiful thing exactly like the subway trains in New York. Actually the handles are almost the same no. as the MTS trains here. I'm sure that thing is packed on rush hours where you can smell everyones "perfumes" around you. Enjoy it! And be careful. If ever you fall make sure it's with someone you might like to date. Hehehehe!

I also love MRTs... except during rush hours. Although I still like it better (during rush hours) than having to ride buses or jeeps.

Standing up for sure kills your feet, especially when the ride is going to be looong.
