MRT - the train that's always packed

Posted by austenfan at 2/28/2009 10:50:00 PM 10 comments
I love the MRT (Manila Metro Rail Transit System). Really. Especially in my first two years in college when I used to go from UP all the way home to Cavite. Back then, once I'd taken my seat on one of its blue benches, all the tension and exhaustion from my Math and Chem filled days seem to drain out of me. Now though, I noticed that more and more people are starting to love it too. Proof? The neverending stream of passengers. It's so rare that you'll find yourself a seat if you didn't get on at the first train station.

See the picture above? That's not the normal count of passengers. Thrice the number of people in the picture is more like it.

What's really annoying about it (except from the having to stand and that you have to squeeze your way through to get on and off it) is the lack of handles/handle-y things to hold on to when you're forced to stand. So what do you do? Balance. And I tell you, this is extremely hard to do, particularly when the train slows down or passes a curved path. You'll likely fall over the other passengers if you don't catch yourself quickly enough. Actually that's not so bad. Definitely better than falling down on the the floor. haha.

So before they have more expansion and connecting stations plans, please please please please, acquire more trains first!

Disclaimer: I don't hate MRT. It's the opposite, in fact. It'd just be nice to be able to seat once in a while and not have to practice self balance in a train. :)

something before i go to sleep

Posted by austenfan at 2/27/2009 11:07:00 PM 4 comments
I started the day thinking and planning how I was going to spend my time after class hours. Among my list of to-do's were:

1. Continue reading Maximum Ride.
2. Browse through some of my textbooks (just so I can say that I did study, even a bit).
3. Catch up on Chuck episodes.

Sadly, as of now (11:18 pm), I haven't even started doing anything from my so-called list and am already halfway to falling asleep. If I can only have this, I'm sure I won't struggle so much in keeping myself awake.
I want!!!!

But since I don't, I'm off to sleep.

Hep Hep, Hooray! LOL.

Posted by austenfan at 2/26/2009 12:45:00 AM 7 comments
As promised. :)

Starting my college life was this big ball of mixed excitement and dread. I was eager to be in a completely different learning environment. To be part of an institution both prestigious and notorious at the same time. To interact with people of extreme personalities. To learn with a whole new set of classmates. Make new sets of friends. All of those things only comprise half of what I felt at that time. The other half was filled with all kinds of anxieties. Probably the most important one was, how do I fit in? Only 4 of us (from high school) went to study at UP plus, I have this huge shy-type complex which is sure to result to me having no new friends for who knows how long.

Looking back now, I realize how foolish I've been to have wasted my time worrying myself over such things. Thanks to my friends and everyone who's been a part of my college life, I'm continually improving to be the person I want to be - who is a far cry from who I was before I went to college. Among all, there are certain things that really made an impact on me. One of those who played an instrumental part in this chapter of my life is you - bilog-game-mate turned classmate turned friend turned roommate turned ex-roommate. :D I have so many things to be thankful of: you carrying my file box for me, taking pictures of my crush (who I once believed was my soul mate, i still feel sad about that one, but that's another topic altogether), putting up with me when I get mad easily for no reason at all (maybe I just have my period then, haha), not getting mad when you talk and I don't really listen completely, all the help with schoolwork, my 18th birthday surprise gift, all your as-corny-as-can-be jokes (which I always laugh at, I don't know why), and all the laughtrip moments (which I think mostly starts with one of us committing a mistake and the other one cruelly and unforgivably laughing at it. Mostly you're the one laughing! >:<)

Now that you're going to be a part of something else, changes are inevitable. You'll probably not get to have lunch with us anymore. Or play at Timezone with us (or even have time for it, I think. :D).Yeah, those things might happen but we'll work it out. I know having a social life comes pretty high on your priorities. heehee.

Anyway, this uber uber melodramatic entry ends here. I know there's only so much drama you can take. haha.

CONGRATULATIONS! Do your best!

I just had to post this. This one's for you Bam, who dares to imply that Robert Pattinson can be anything less than super-gorgeous-hot-and-all-other-synonymous-terms! Hmp! haha.

Blogsvertise

Posted by austenfan at 2/21/2009 04:41:00 PM 1 comments
I'm fairly new at blogging, hence, I still haven't been able to properly customize and maximize the use of my blog. However, I've heard a lot of stories about earning through blogs which I readily dismissed as they sound quite unbelievable. Imagine my surprise when a friend of mine told me he was making money through his blog and that I could probably earn my own too! (makes $$$-eyes. LOL) He signed up at Blogsvertise, a site that pays you back for each writing task that you complete for them. The process is somewhat simple, listed below are the steps:
  1. Register for an account at the Blogsversite site.
  2. Once you have registered, your blog will be reviewed. It can either get accepted, or rejected according to the administrator's discretion. Or it can be put on probation status, but with reduced pay rates.
  3. Once you get accepted, tasks will be assigned to you. In an entry (consisting of 2-3 paragraphs) with around 100 words, you must mention the advertiser's products/services and put 3 links to advertiser's site. The task should be done within 5 days of its assignation to you.
  4. This entry then needs to be submitted back to Blogsvertise for approval. Once your entry's been approved, the payment will be sent to your Paypal account after 30 days. (yay! :D)
hmm. sounds cool, huh? :)

new moon casting

Posted by austenfan at 2/21/2009 01:40:00 PM 0 comments
Everyday I search the net hoping that someone new had been casted for New Moon, but to no avail. They're supposed to start shooting scenes on March so shouldn't they have the complete cast by now? I completely agree with popular choices like Dakota Fanning as Jane and Ben Barnes as Aro, though I still can't imagine him having white-y, chalky skin and red blood eyes. This girl though, I can definitely see as a vampire.

Yvonne Strahovski. Or Agent Sarah Walker from Chuck. And one of my ultimate girl-crushes. LOL. Gosh, she's so outrageously good looking that you'd never want to be even a foot near her (if you're a girl, of course. and the opposite for the guys i know). Plus, she's model-tall and can do stunts and all. I was thinking she could be Heidi from the Volturi or maybe even Tanya Denali?

Yes. Yes. Yes. (calling out to Chris Weitz!)

constantly addicted

Posted by austenfan at 2/18/2009 09:15:00 AM 2 comments
I'm the sort of person who easily gets addicted. To Books and TV Shows. (And I have absolutely no intention of testing if my addiction problems can branch out elsewhere.) I mean once I get into a book/show, I really get into it. When an ordinary person likes something, s/he normally says/thinks, 'Hmm. I really like this. It's my most favorite chorva na.' (haha) But me? Nuh-uh. I have to research everything about it, collect stuff related to it, talk about it all the time, put in on my computer desktop, phone wallpapers, and do all kinds of things I could think of.

Examples: (haha)

1. Ghost Fighter (or Yuyu Hakusho)
Probably my first addiction. (It's the one to blame!) I wasn't able to start this series on its pilot episode, I think Eugene was training under Jeremiah when I first watched it (of course, I remember! haha). Anyway, I got so in love with the show that almost everytime we came to the mall, I'd drag my parents to Comic Alley to buy stickers, fans, and those laminated pictures that cost 20 pesos each. I even bought a soundtrack (one of the many), from which I only know two songs, the one they used for the opening and ending credits. Plus, I collected teks! Then, I plastic-wrapped them. And put them in an album! (Yep, better believe it. :D) And (there's more?! haha) I have this cross stitched and framed image of Vincent in my room which I forced my mom to make. Up to now, it's still there, a remembrance of my first um, love. :)

2. Fushigi Yuugi
Same with Ghost Fighter. Went to Comic Alley for stickers, fans, and pictures. But, as I resented splurging on buying its soundtrack, I recorded all the music that I loved (even some of the super cheesy lines,, yuuuck, haha) from this show in a cassette player.

a lot more in between which I can't remember

3. Gossip Girl
Fedi recommended the book to me, so I bought a copy and read the first one. Afterwards, all I could think of was the money I wasted on the book. Then I saw the cast pictures on the net and was so intrigued that I youtube'd it. That was then followed by torrent downloads (even staying for 2 hours in a comp shop), picture grabbing, fanlistings-joining, etc. It's a good thing this addiction has passed since last year. :D

4. Twilight (did I ever)
All my friends must know how addicted I was to Twilight. Words can't even express how much of an addict I am. Just thinking about all the things I did for it induces a head spinning world whirling confusion. So maybe I'll leave that topic for another time. haha.

5. Blue Bloods
Caps recently (in truth, just last night) finished the Blue Bloods series which I kind of forced her to read. And she loved it! Haha. Finally, I have someone to rave my opinions and theories with! Just lately fell in love with this so still not certain of whatever addictive disorders I may develop. :)

good thing it's not swelling

tripped on my own foot
picked myself up really fast
hid in the stores' shelves

My first ever haiku (if you could call it that) and it talks about my *surprise! surprise!* unbelievable clumsiness. Fortunately, this happened at NBS and not in other bookstores with calmer atmospheres where people are sure to look for the cause of disturbance. Argh. Never again will I walk while talking on the phone.

valentine-schmalentine

Posted by austenfan at 2/14/2009 12:11:00 AM 11 comments
Yesterday, me and my roommate were watching TV Patrol and in comes this story about how flowers were already in demand and how much each variety costs. Then, my roommate blurts out "Bakit kasi flowers? Pwede namang iba?" (the words may not be accurate, but you get the drift) And me being me, says "Ah, talaga? Ako, gusto ko ng flowers. basta. may something" (with matching kaartehan in my voice). Yeah, I'm one to talk. As if I have someone who'll give me anything this Valentine's (which is today. haha). Prior to this, a number of friends have once said that they would rather receive chocolates than flowers. What's happening to you people???? Am I the only romantic, true-love-believing person left (at least within those I know)? :(

Totally OT but has anyone seen the new Whisper commercial with Kim and Gerald in it? Is it just me or did anyone else find it so.... not appropriate? as in for kids? haha.

i can't get enough of it. or him. haha. (a sort of book review)

Posted by austenfan at 2/12/2009 04:26:00 PM 0 comments
I've recently started reading the wonderful wonderful Blue Bloods series. And it TOTALLY. BLEW. ME. AWAY. This is the first book (or series, really) that I felt this immensely for since the Twilight Saga. The storyline is really captivating and you just can't help but sympathize with the characters (or sometimes, just plain hate them). Currently, three books for the series have been released: Blue Bloods, Masquerade, and Revelations. Below are the book covers (they look really really good, don't they?)

The series is written by Melissa de la Cruz (she's Filipino, pure, I think) and I can't really say that she's that good of a writer. yet. The story's narrated based on the different characters' POVs and sometimes the switching is done with little indication beforehand which can get quite confusing. Plus, there's always overdescriptions of the characters' outfits which isn't really necessary (for me, anyway, since I'm mostly interested in the plot). Good thing I'm so in love with the story and the characters (some) that I'm willing to overlook its faults. :)

Since it involves vampires, I can't help but compare it to Twilight. However, I only noticed two things in common with the two series: vampires and the love triangle thing (no worries, no major spoiling harm done since it's quite obvious from the beginning. hehe). Blue Bloods is not as romantic and heart-fluttering as Twilight was. So in a way, I think it's more realistic. You don't get this super amazing perfect guy. Instead, you get one who/m you'll really gush about sometimes, and want to slap silly the next (talking 'bout Jack/Benjamin Force here, *sigh*). For all my praises about Blue Bloods, I still won't say it's better than Twilight. Hmm. Let me finish the series first. haha.

The next installment for the series (The Van Alen Legacy) comes out this September much to my impatient self's dismay. For now, I sustain my addiction by scrounging around the net for good fanfics (Jack/Schuyler! :D).

25 random things :)

Posted by austenfan at 2/10/2009 09:15:00 PM 9 comments
I got this from the TCP forum. Hope mine are not too boring. :)

1. All through grade school and high school, I've never once skipped a class. Now that I'm in college and living in a dorm, I can't seem to resist the pull. haha

2. I have poor physical balance and coordination. Sometimes, I even trip while walking in a flat surface. Imagine that!

3. I'm scared of almost all types of animals (except fishes in aquariums, of course). Earlier, as I was in a jeep, this man came in holding a male chicken (just so there's no misunderstanding, haha) and sat beside me. NOOOO! I angled myself as far away as possible from him which I hope didn't offend him too much. :D

4. I have lots of fictional crushes: Edward Cullen, Benjamin Force, Luke Brandon, Captain Wentworth, Cooper Cartwright, lots more. Chuck Bass!

5. As well as real life crushes!

6. I'm an only child and I used to wish I'd have a younger brother. One time, I made my mom take a home pregnancy test because she missed her period. haha

7. After reading/watching a book/movie that I really liked, I'd sometimes space out and have this uncontrollable smile-y expression on my face.

8. Lately, I'm becoming addicted to cappuccino (to both the caffeine fix and taste). :)

9. When I'm at home, I can't have breakfast without Milo.

10. I've never tasted beer. never. (I'm afraid that I'd just throw it up.)

11. I'm loving Blue Bloods more and more. In some ways, I think it's even better than Twilight. (Ooooh.)

12. I haven't eaten chocolates (as in chocolate bars) since last year. And that's an achievement!

13. That's because I'm on a diet. Which I continually fail to follow. huhu

14. The username I frequently use, nuwanda, came from the movie the dead poet's society which I absolutely loved!

15. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a doctor, then a CPA-lawyer, and now I ended up taking up Chemical Engineering. Hmm. haha

16. I love the game show Wheel of Fortune, and even dreamt of joining. Too bad they replaced it with Deal or No Deal. :(

17. I have prescription glasses which I refuse to wear outdoors (I dunno why, people might think I'm pretentious or something. haha)

18. I'm really shy so I didn't have too many friends in HS. My social skills seem to have improved now. I think.

19. Speaking of HS, I really hated it whenever we were asked to do skits and any other kind that involved acting and scripts.

20. I'm a crammer. As in the tomorrow's-the-deadline-and-I-stay-up-until-2 am-just-to-finish-it type.

21. My bag's always full of all types of things (mostly food wrappers and plastics. haha) that I always forget to remove. I always have to dig through it just to get what I'm looking for.

22. When taking exams, I bring at least 3 ballpens. I'm so paranoid and I worry that the ink might run out (ballpoint pens are the worse, you never know when they'll stop becoming usable).

23. I'm not very good at sports (actually, I'm bad at it). I hate anything that involves running and when I serve the volleyball I can't make it cross the net. haha

24. But there's one sport I love! Bowling (Duckpin or Tenpin). :) Though I'm not very good at it.

25. I have this weird habit of erasing stuff I've written just because there's something, even a tiny bit wrong in the stroke of my handwriting. Sometimes, I erase it even when there's nothing wrong with it but I just feel like I have to rewrite it. (ME WEIRD.) :D

Yay! 25! haha.

the story of my sore arms

Posted by austenfan at 2/06/2009 09:39:00 PM 0 comments
Blame it all here:

Or more specifically:

Earlier we went to the UP-Ayala Technohub (at last!) for the sole purpose of playing at Timezone (we're all kids at heart :)). I won't mention names since some of them broke previously set engagements just so they could come. Oh, the lure of Timezone. haha. They don't have the counterpart of Dance Revo (the one that only uses hands), so we were quite disappointed (edgie, mostly :D). And they didn't have Air Hockey, which is only like the best arcade game ever! Anyway, we tried the motor racing, basketball, videoke, plus their slightly new game which name I can't remember. It's the one where you throw these small and really light balls on the screen to hit the um, villains? haha. I think we played it about six times. One of my friends was screaming like crazy as we played the game and we were all laughing so hard that we were getting curious glances from the others nearby. hehe.

There goes the story of my sore arms. :)

Had a blast! When's "next time" gonna be? lol

There I was, looking for something to do on the net when I stumbled upon a friend's update on twitter (hi to trixie, if ever you're reading this! :D) that directed me to this site. This prompted a round of giddiness that I think lasted for about 20 minutes. (If you're curious as to why, visit the link.) All I can say is: I hate Michael Angarano! And to think that I had a crush on him back when he guest starred on Will and Grace! >:<

Um, hello? No point in comparing. haha

Aww. Sweet. :)

I know, I know, I'm so immature that I can't even separate movies from real life. But that's me, so back off, 'kay? :)

you just knew i'd write about this.

Posted by austenfan at 2/03/2009 08:46:00 PM 8 comments
Just this weekend, I and a friend (ahem! ed! ji! haha) talked, or rather swapped pictures of our past crushes - and present since crush-y feelings don't really pass, they just lurk around somewhere and pounce on you when you least expect it. :D Btw, this picture-swapping was made possible by the ultimate stalking medium called friendster (hoorah!). :) Moving on, I was quite surprised when my list amounted to more than 10 people. (Of course, those who really know me would probably say something like, "just 10?!" or in my friend's case -ahem! ed! ji!-"may tinatago ka pa eh. ilabas mo na.") And that's just in high school. I'm starting to think that maybe there is something wrong with me. Or nothing's wrong with me and everyone's just denying their own extensive list of schoolgirl crushes. Hmm.

___________________________________________________________________

Since we're on the topic of crushes and stuff, let me just say that I'm an absolute believer in true love. As in! I got goosebumps while reading Twilight and a whole bunch of other novels with even just a touch of love story in them. How weird is that? :o

Just some of the love teams (from books and TV) that I loved over the years: (haha)
  • Usagi/Mamoru (Aww. my first. hehe)
  • Archie/Veronica (Archie comics)
  • Elizabeth Wakefield/Todd Wilkins (Sweet Valley. :))
  • Jessica Wakefield/Aaron Dallas (SVH again)
  • Jessica Wakefield/Jeremy Aames (SVH Senior Year)
  • Elizabeth Wakefield/Conner Mcdermott (SVH Senior Year. I was addicted back then. :D)
  • Gaia Moore/Ed Fargo (Fearless)
  • Miaka/Tamahome (wah. forgive me for this, but i was a fan. haha)
  • Recca/Aira (Flame of Recca, though they were never together. hehe)
  • Vincent and me in my imagined side stories (Ghost Fighter)
  • Killua and me in my imagined side stories (Hunter X Hunter)
  • Rory/Jess (Gilmore Girls)
  • Rory/Logan (Gilmore Girls)
  • Piper/Leo (Charmed)
  • Phoebe/Cole (Charmed)
  • Veronica/Logan (Veronica Mars)
  • Lizzy Bennet/Mr. Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)
  • Anne Elliot/Frederick Wentworth (Persuasion)
  • Jane Eyre/Mr. Rochester (Jane Eyre)
  • Cathy/Heathcliff - oh, yes! (Wuthering Heights)
  • Yuki/Kaname (Vampire Knight)
  • Chuck/Blair - Gossip Girl
  • Chuck/Sarah - Chuck
  • Casey/Ilsa - Chuck (cuuuuteeee)
  • Edward/Bella - of course! (Twilight saga)
  • lots more that i can't remember as of this moment. :D
